Default And yet another question.

Having a DLE 2 cylinder I would like to keep the whole engine under the cowl. The end product for this model is scale, hopefully. The only way to achieve covering the whole engine is to mount it so that the cylinders are at a 45 degree angle to the horizon. Will this angle have a bad effect on performance? I'm thinking the torque will be off center as opposed to the cylinders being either level to the horizon or at 90 degrees to the horizon. This question arises from my experience on a motorcycle with an inline engine, at idle the bike would slightly rock with the firing of the cylinders. I don't want my plane to rock off kilter.

Agreed - I've mounted engines at 45 degrees, even upside down to get the best silencer arrangement. Never had any problems.

Cheers,

Torque is round, it doesn't know how the engine is mounted

In addition to that, the pistons are opposed, meaning the mass of one piston and conrod is offset by the mass of the piston and conrod from the opposite side. The ignition is also timed to fire the plugs in such a way that the engine's power pulses are evenly spaced so the engine runs smoothly, not roughly from two power pulses followed by two exhaust pulses.
