I have a great planes PT-40 traner and I'm allmost finished but it is going to snow soon
(I live in NS. canada) so I was thinking of doing my traning in the winter.
I am looking for a set of skies for a 40 size aircraft hopefully new in red,yellow,whight, silver or black.

When it snows here we use 1/4" coroplast/signboard for ski's (spad). For your size cut a piece 2" wide by 20" long. Crease the front of the coro and insert a bent coat hangar to form the front of the ski. Cut a small piece of 1/8" ply 3"x3" with a hole for the landing gear and stick (and glue) the ply down in the flutes midway of the ski. Take the remaining coat hangar and insert one end into a one of the flutes and bend the other up and tape it to the landing gear. Ive got a pic but havent the faintest how to attach it. It's of my Ghetto Bird. I could email you a pic if you want. If you are just learning, the ski's may throw a whole new airfoil (at least mine do) to the situation. Something to think about.

We just make them too. Either wood and bend them and treat them with clear coat, steam bends them nice, or get a piece of PVC rain gutter and cut out the shape you want, Dip the tip in boiling water for a short time, and bend it around a pop can. Put a screw through the bottom into the mounting plate or engine mount sticking up from the ski, and drill a hole in it for the gear. Pretty simple and no cost.

Actually, floats work better in more snow conditions than skies. Get yourself a set of Gee Bee .40 sized floats. Trust me, you'll be happy.

RCaeroguy is right on. Skis work great for icy / hard surface snow, but for soft fluffy powder, skis are useless as they sink in. Also skis get caught in holes / tracks in the snow where floats do not.
