OOPS, Major electrical malfunction!

Here's an oddity that happened to me the oter day:
Took my Dazzler to the flying field the other day for its maiden voyage. Was in the process of doing my range check when all control surfaces stopped moving. everything was dead![:@]
As I walked back to the plane I noticed smoke coming from the hatch. Uh-oh[X(]
To make a long story short, there's not alot of room for all the goodies in the fuselage and as a result, my throttle arm from the servo to the throttle was rubbing against the electrical connector to the battery. Now there's only about 1.5mm of exposed silver contacts, well sure enough, my throttle rod rubbed right across the both of them and shorted out the battery pack, melted wires but fortunately caused no fires!
Take this under advisement. NO OPEN CONTACTS!, Tape them off or do something elso to eliminate the risk.
Suffice it to say, the maiden voyage was postponed!

No offense taken.
Yes second plane, first crack at building a kit. Ad's say ..."frame it up and cover it in a weekend or two." YEAH RIGHT![sm=spinnyeyes.gif] I started a logbook when I opened up the box and from start to finish, including the covering I've got 57.25 hours into that little girl! (That didn't include the six hours I put into polishing the OS engine. It came out pretty nice, muffler looks like chrome! Can't wait to cover it with baked on castor!

Still haven't flown it. Electrical problem put a stop to that idea! I haven't had time to go to the LHS for a new battery pack, so this one will have to wait a few days.

The offending wire(s) were from the battery to the on/off switch. Standard JR Flight pack, when you connect the wires, there are exposed silver contacts no more than a 1/16th of an inch wide on the actual plastic connector. Well, throttle control rod rubbed right across that 1/16th of an inch and shorted out the battery pack. All the wires connecting the batteries together were fused together causing the smoke. I'm thankful they didn't catch the foam that the pack was wrapped in on fire.
