I just talked to my friend corey. He had just got back from his first day at the field with his new superstar 40. His instructor told him to taxi the plane around his yard to further break in the engine. While he was doing the he said a gust of wind caught the plane and it took off! Then it hit a pole. So i figured that he didnt know what to do and it stalled and hit the pole. He said The prop is broken the spinner is cracked and the right side of the plane is crunched from the front to just past the firewall and the covering is ripped. He doesnt want to fix this plane and i am trying to talk him into selling it to me cheap as i know it can be fixed. I was planning on taking it to my hobbyshop and having it fixed(i will be getting m superstar x-mas, and have no real experience with thee planes) or sending it to someone on rcu who would be willing to fix it. I need an estimate on the price for the repairs. and if anyone is willing to fix it. He said he would probably just buy a whole new plane. But nothing else on this plane was harmed. The wing and everything is PERFECT. He just got this plane 3 days ago and put in 3 flights before the accident yesterday. Any feedback is helpful!

Cody,
Tell your friend Corey to taxi the plane around his yard with the wing removed. Unless you intend to fly the plane, don't install the wing. As for repair, have someone at you local hobby shop look at it and give you advise on how to repair it yourself. Much cheaper that way.

sounds like he got caught by a gust of throttle stick, wind my ass.
this repair is gonna very expensive, he better get a lone.
get a new prop, spinner, then simply cut back the damaged wood until you get to undamaged. scaft joints ( at an angle ) will give more strenght than one that is straight, in this case parlell to the firewall. the part hes damages sounds like the cowl, which has no load on it at all and will either be 1/8th ply or 1/4 balsa. then get a roll of covering to match that part of the plane. it'll take an afternoon and cost less than the prop
have a look at my rebuild page to see the basics

First.....your friend needs a new instrutor. NEVER NEVER NEVER go taxi around an airplane, unless you plan on taking it off. The instructor should have never suggested to taxi around the plane, let alone around the house. Your friend was following directions, however I would question the instrutor's ablities, now
NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!
Your freind found out why you do not taxi a plane around.
If you need to break in the motor, put the wing on the plane and run the motor in the back yard.
To your question. You can buy a new fuse from Great Planes. If you are buying the plane with the radio and motor, don't pay more than a couple hundred for it, becasue a new fuse will cost about 80. A whole new superstar select is under 300.
A new SuperStar ARF plane is less than $100.00.
If its really cheap, buy the thing and fix it yourself. It will teach you a few things about the plane, so when you bust one up, you will already have knowledge of fixing them.

Thanks guys. I will try to repair it myself if i buy it since i'm just gonna see if i can teach myself with it since my mom and dad are going halves with me for x-mas to buy the Mk II model. I think it would be cool to learn on my own with this plane and if i fail then i'll get an instructor. He said he would probably sell it for $30.00 t me! Do its not to exxpensive if i fail

i'll forgive you that being a newbee... but from description hes done nothing more than make it ugly. and if he wants to sell it, well i'd offer him 10 quid just for being a bit thick
i'd get a decent plane out of it at least.
got any pics, but the damage sounds vey superficial

30 is still a steal tho, you gonna be that mean to him? just 1$ of balsa, a prop and spinner and he's got it fixed

good man, hope he learnt taxing with wings in small spaces isn't fun when you cant control your throttle thumb, however fuz racing is a bit of a hoot....
