Default Will this flight pack work with my JR?

It's RX is shift compatible with JR, the size of the servos are just a hair different than a JR 537.. Does it look ok? $89 for RX, battery, and 4 servos looks good to me! They will be for an Ultra Stick 40 - Joe Click tech notes on the left to get the details on it. - Joe http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUZ91&P=0

theo only thing that matters is if it is a pcm pack, regardless of the shift, you can only use it with a radio made by the same manufacturer. other than that, itlooks fine.

I can't decide if that's a "Yes Buy It!" or a "Maybe it will work" answer. I'm using a JR 631 radio. Is that PCM? Parts Count Minimized? Pretty Cool Modulation? Hmmm... - Joe

You have to specify that it's for a JR Radio when you order it. They make them for Hitec & Futaba (negative shift), or JR and Airtronics (I think), which are positive shift. You'll also have to tell them which channel (or frequency).
FM can be transmitted in either PPM or PCM. PPM is the more popular. PCM is quite a bit more expensive when purchasing a receiver.

which means that there are also less people with pcm which in turn means that if you fly at a crowded or a public field it may be the better choice. pcm ignores fm signals (at least the futaba pcms do) but a ppm reciever usually gets interferance. a great example is the infamous sepulveda basin flying field in los angales, california. i fly there from time to time. a lot of the people there jsut go out to the local hobby shop, buy everything and turn it on right there. people get radio hits all the time there. my first one was my first day flying at that field. i did not fly there again for a year. i got pcm and it never happened again. also, i like the failsafe feature. i have it set to go to half throttle and my rudder gyro to go into heading lock. let's say it is p0o0inting nose down in a turn it is going to hit the ground with or without it, but it will give me more time because without it the nose would drop to a steeper angle. if i am in a turn it will eventually break into a knife-edge slow dropping circle. however if you belong to a club, usually that isn't a problem. at the private field i belong to, i am the only one on 22. no worries.

I agree with most of what you're saying. However, both PPM and PCM operate on an FM carrier. PCM is a bit better at filtering out stray signals (ignoring them actually), but a PCM transmitter on channel 46 is using the exact same FM frequency and signals as a PPM transmitter on channel 46.

That particular flight pack has a receiver that is "shift selectable", so it will work with your JR transmitter.

All of the commonly found servos in the US will work in all of the common receviers. Some companies like Futaba put non-standard plugs on their servos, but you can cut the little tab off with a knife and shave the corners off and use it anyway. (I do this all the time).

Spaceclam,
While I don't doubt you saw what you saw in your test, everything I've read and know about how FM and PCM actually works tells me your test was "lucky", and that while it might have worked for you for that moment, telling people it works all the time would be misleading, as it doesn't. I've seen almost the exact same test, PCM TX and RX on and doing a range test, then an FM TX is turned on to see what happens, the the PCM immedatly went in to failsafe.

(PCM failsafe vs the good (non-futaba) PPM receivers in a "dirty" envrionment is an open debate, one I won't go in to here, other than to say that I won't fly PCM personally. And a couple of guys at my field just tossed all their PCM went back to PPM recently. But I know others swear by their PCM gear, so ymmv.)

joelansing, as Montaugue said, the rx is shift selectable...you don't have to order a specific shift.....I have a bunch of these RX's and they work great. The RX will come from the factory set on the Futaba/Hitec shift, so MAKE SURE that you move the jumper wire on the rx to set it up JR/Airtronics shift. There is a little diagram right on the rx to help you.

I'm not sure about that particular rx, but I have a few hitec rxs, and they all work fine with my jr stuff.
whereabouts are you in lansing? and where do you fly? (my sister goes to state, it might be fun to go fly somwhere else for a few days, with an excuse)

Wow, thanks guys! I ordered the flight pack after the first "Buy It" reply. I got a lot of good info after that on this thread though!

And Mr. Wingnut: I fly at the CARDS field. http://www.radiodrone.net It's a nice place with 180 or so members. Yell at me some weekend. You can get stuck with me on a buddy wire... - Joe

Joe,
I think we're all happy to help.

One thought though. If you're asking a question here, try to wait for at least two or three replies. It's rare, but I've seen a few answers that were dead wrong. []

Any positive-shift PPM receiver will work fine with JR. I use JR, Airtronics, Hitec, and FMA receivers. All you've got to do is specify which radio brand you need it for when purchasing. Hitec makes some (like this one) that are shift selectable by changing a jumper setting.
