I'm assuming then it's the square connector in the back? My 9 year old futaba has a round connector that's about the size of a dime.

From: Laurel, MD,
I have heard that there is a round-to-square and square-to-round conversion cable for Futaba. I've also heard they are near-impossible to find.
I've never seen a Futaba-to-JR or vice-versa cable, so if you have a JR TX and no one else does, you're going to need to find another JR box yourself.
My field has more students flying JR right now than Futaba by a pretty good margin due mostly to the Alpha trainer package. But we are short on JR buddy boxes, and Horizon is backordered on them, or at least they were. I've been using my regular JR TX for a buddy box with many of these students. I have a model program set aside for the stock Alpha setup to make life easier.

I still have to grin when I read of all the problems associated with buddy-cords. Maybe someday, everyone will realize that there is an infinitely better way to teach than with the use of a buddy-box. See: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...tm.htm#1094078
I learned this way and got to take off and land on my very first lesson. I also learned to fly a Fokker DVII and Supersporster 40 the same week after a learned to fly my trainer. My only crash came when my rx battery ran down.

Joe,
I agree that that technique may work better for some people, and it looks like a good thing. But it depends on having an instructor who knows how to do it available. There aren't that many around who are willing and able to do it that way.
