Default GP P-51 Mustang

Hey all,
Can anyone pass me some comments on this plane. It will probably be my third plane and from a kit.
Thanks

Great kit, fairly easy to build, flies great, not as scale as other kits but I can't think of any other 40 size that is any more scale. I was told that the airfoil is based on the ultrasport which makes it fairly aerobatic. Mine was clocked at 90+mph with a Royal 46 using a standard muffler. The fuse will accommodate a 60 size engine but I don't think it is necessary.

GREAAAAAAAAAT airplane!! Yes, it has the same airfoil as an ultrasport which gives an awesome handling in the air. I had a royal p-51 and it was a fine airplane but with some little bad habits. The GP P-51 behave like a pattern ship more than a scale bird. LOVED IT!
Sold it just to see it crash a week later

I have to agree with ghendrix, I really like mine! The only really noticable scale deviation is the ailerons, tail and the radiator scoop. I am not sure what effect cutting down the horizontal stab and moving the elevator forward would be, but I don't think it would hurt. With a little creativity, you can improve on the looks of the scoop without effecting flight characteristics too much. The solid nose makes it difficult to do much with the engine. I switched from an O.S. 46 to a RCV 60, and cut the nose off and made it into a two piece cowl. I flew it several times without the lower cowl and didn't notice much difference with or without the lower cowl. When I first mounted the RCV, I left the whole nose off, and it seemed to have a lot of drag and flew slower and sluggish. I also increased the size of the ailerons, and turned up all the throws. I found that I hardly ever turned up to the high rates as it flew very acrobatically even on low rates. The high rates were not at all scale like :-). Point being, use the recommended control throws and you will be fine. As far as how it flies goes, if I had known it flew so well, I would have spent a little more time on my trainer, and eliminated my fourstar! Well, maybe not, I really had a LOT of fun with the fourstar. To sum it up, it is true to its manufacturers name sake!
