Aww Dang!! I can't convert Standard to Remote Needle Valve
I have a Magnum .46 XLS.
It has hardware for both Standard and Remote needle valves.
It came standard needle valve.
The manual says how to convert it to Remote, but I stripped the thing.
Hobbypeople lists the whole carb assembly as 49.98!!!! C-R-A-P!
That's half the price of the engine.
Email server's down, can't email Global.
C-R-A-P.
can someone help me?!!?
U kno wat? I should post this in Engines too.

You could pick up the phone and call them. Thry still take phone orders.
Or maybe you could find a good used one locally. [&:]

like when you strip the threads on a screw, but instead, the hex thingy has now become round.

yub yub,
if its the flat one you could very carefully use a dremel tool with a cutting blade and cut a slot in it and use a standard screw driver to remove it.if its the one with the needle valve already in it you can still use the dremel and a small grinding stone and make a groove and use the screw driver and small hammer and litely tap it loose. either way be sure to cover the carb so no metal gets into the engine. hope this helps and good luck.

Or just leave the standard needle valve until you HAVE to remove it for some reason. All but one of my engines have the standard needle valve and I've never had a problem with them. You just need to be careful when adjusting them; and you should be careful around the engine anyway.

Your better off with the standard needle anyway. A lot less problems. I can't stand those damn remote needles on my engines. They also give a lot of the new pilots a false sense of security.
Use it is you wish, but remember, the needle is still within reach of the prop when you are tuning it.
The biggest problem with them is that it makes it harder to fuel the plane. You can't just take the line off the carb and fuel anymore.

Btw, if you really want a remote needle, and have an engine where you can't remove the needle for some reason or another, you can still run it with a remote needle.
All you need to do is back out the needle to a spot that is way on rich side and leave it there. Putting some RTV or whatever on it to make sure it doesn't move and doesn't leak air would be good. Then pick up a remote needle assembly from somewhere. Any .40size engine will work, I'd go with the one from the OS LA as it is known to have a rather fine taper and holds it's setting well. Then just run your fuel line from teh tank to the new remote needle then to the carb.
As an added bonus, you can mount this needle just about anywhere vagely close to the engine. I've seen guys mount them on the firewall this way, well back of the engine.
