new to the RC airplanes scene....need help!!!!!
Hi there,
Im very new to this rc thing, but i have ALWAYS been interested in flight....and have always waned to be an airline pilot.......after realising what was involved, i decieded that the rc thing was best suited to me!!!!
I am looking for an electric model (rtf) with an elevator, cause i dont like the idea of using the throttle for that pupose........also i would like a plane which looks nice too (ie. like a real plane).
I have been interested in a few different models, namely the super aviator, and the leonardo...
Ne advice or suggesions would be most welcome...
ps. im from the UK. and have had problems in getting american companies to deliver here

Aerobird. Search for HobbyZone Aerobird Challenger on Google or listen to what others say its web site is.
Check out Hobby-Lobby, too. Go to www.hobby-lobby.com

The GWS Tigermoth is very easy to fly, and it looks pretty much like a Tigermoth. It's rudder-elevator, no ailerons, so the wings have a bit more dihedral than "scale". Not good for flying in the wind though.
I know nothing about the planes you named, so I can't comment

The GWS Tigermoth can be a bit of a problem for some beginners. Its defineitly a problem for someone used to flying a 4 ch glow powered sport model, as it requires a different style. Its slow, and power is a bit marginal.
You can do better taking a Hobbico "Swarm" FF electric (piper PA-18 cub base design) 31.5 inch version (there's 3 sizes) and put a GWS motor in with the same electronics and battery as recommended for the Tiger moth. This makes an excellent 3 ch trainer. (I took my stuff out of my Tiger moth and put it in one of these models) Delete the wheels... they won't stand up to more than 3 landings anyway.
Any plane designed for FF and converted to electric R/C makes a good trainer

I wouldn't recommend the Corsair (or any war bird) as a first plane unless the buyer had someone with advanced RC electric flying experience to teach them how to fly it .. IMHO - start with a high wing trainer for a first plane..too advanced an aircraft only seems to frustrate new people and they usually give up after wrecking a plane or two!! I've heard that the wattage RTF 280 Cessna is a good trainer - I haven't seen one fly though. You gotta walk before you can run. Sincerely, BWC

The GWS Cub is fairly easy to fly, but it tends to climb too much under power. A little extra down thrust on the motor mount would help that.
FHHuber,
I usually agree with your posts, but not this time. Aircraft meant to be flown free flight (at least the smaller ones you see most often) do NOT make good candidates for RC conversion. The most often seen FF kits are Guillows and Sterling, and neither of these convert easily to RC.
I know you meant larger FF, but beginners wouldn't know that.

The GWS tiger moth is not RTF, but I put one together in 6hrs (I was actually watching the clock), so it's not a lot of work. But I didn't use the GWS supplied glue much, I mostly used foam-safe (oderless) CA and kicker.
