Hi,
I've already built a few airplanes, from kits and a couple from scratch. However, I was wondering what you guys would call a good "2nd" airplane.
I was thinking about getting an Astro Hog from Sig. I've heard good things about them, so I was wondering what you thought of it. Does it slow down good for landing approaches? Is it pretty durable (able to withstand rough landings)? What type of construction is it? I have an older K&B .45 Sportster, would that be a wise choice for this plane? And so on...
Anybody out there with Astro Hog experience of any kind? Share your thoughts.
Thanks a bunch,
Dan

My Feedback: (9)
Test flew and put the first 10 flights on one last year for a guy I was buddy boxing. His is OS FX.46 powered.
A little tame for my taste but a good flyer. It has to much dihedral for good knife edge but inverted flight
was ok. It's a good second plane but I think the Goldberg Tiger 2 is better. It does not look as scale as the Hog but is lighter. The difference in weight makes the Tiger land and takeoff easyer. The tiger can also be built tri-gear or taildragger. I don't think the Hog is a mistake , but I dont know what your flying skills are. The Tiger is easyer to fly. later daveo

From: gone,
Tiger 2 or Any of the Four-Star series. The venerable Sig Kobra/Kougar/King Kobra if you want some speed in your second plane... (Pattern style planes tend to make good 2nd planes as they need to be predictable to be good for Pattern competition)
Actually... there's a BUNCH of good "second" planes out there. It really depends on which direction you want to head in the hobby.
Poor 2nd palne chices are things such as the Dazzler. Huge control surfaces... very touchy controls. (but they can be "tamed" by reducing control throw...) And inherantly unstable planes, or things with unusual shape such as the Gremlin are not a good idea until you have more flying experience. (you can gain a perspective advantage by towing a 10 ft crepe paper streamer when transitioning to some strange shape aircraft...)

Dan-
I have to put my vote in for the 4 star 60. Flies like a trainer- with an os70 4 stroke. Great combination, will do almost any manuver but is easy to fly. Great looking too.
