How does everyone transport their wings?
I've been wrapping mine in a blanket and bungeing (is that a word?) them to the side of my truck bed. It is a pain because I have a snap on liner that must be removed to un tie the far end. I would like to build a cradle that I could attach the wing to with velcro. Has anyone built one of these for use in a small pickup bed?

RE: How does everyone transport their wings?
Hi Zetor:
I do not have a pickup. I use a minivan for myself. But I have seen guys with pickups make a cradle type set up from PVC pipe. I have seen these racks made from 3/4" PVC. I cannot draw a picture but will try to explain it to you. Using "Tee's" and elbows make a square base for the carrier. Use "t's" to make a slot sort of like a "U" to hold the wing securely. And another "U" to hold the fuse. You may have to experiment with it some. You can get the PVC at any Home center and don't forget the cement and primer. You can cut the parts with a chop saw if you have one or by hand with a saw. Use pipe insulation, the black foam kind for cushions on the pipe and you will only have to tie down the holder in the bed. I am sorry I cannot do the drawing. It is a simple project. Hey Minnflier you out there? One of your drawings is worth 100 of my words!

I've been using a pvc rack I built to haul my 2 balsa trainer wings around. It is built out of 1/2" schedule 40 PVC (heavy walled stuff) and then coved with the 1/2" foam insulation that is normally used on your water pipes in your house. I think I've got less than 5-7 bux in the whole thing and it works great....all you need to do is take a few measurements for wing thickness and how long you want to build the rack and you're all set.
Here's a pic of my PVC wing rack:
A little closer shot of the end of the rack and foam:
I don't have any drawings or actuall plans to build one I just got out my trusty tapemeasure and the power miterbox saw and started building to fit.

That actually looks like what I am planning on building, but also with 2 fuse holders, so I can strap it in the back of my van for transport.

Mad Max, that looks like a good set up. That's what I'm going to do. I can just tie the end near the tailgate without fooling with the cover.

I have a Toyota Corrola, and a 69" wing span on my trainer, I can get the wing in over the passenger seat ok, it's getting the fuse crossways in the back seat that's a pain.. - Joe

I think it was either here or another board that they made full plane carriers out of PVC. Do a search, should yield some interesting results I think.
here is a thread based on transporting your plane. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tm.asp?m=236846]plane stand[/link]

RE: How does everyone transport their wings?
My father and i were dicussing this issue last night and he came up with the idea that we should just build a playwood box big enough ho haul the planes and throw it in the back of the truck. When we want to transport a plane just toss in some towels to line the bow and them lay the wing and fuse on top. How does this sound? Also I had an Idea to put hinges on MADD_MAXXES existing design to make sure they wont fly out but i cant post a pic. Any one host a pic for me?

RE: How does everyone transport their wings?
I'm a bit lazy...
I stick the airplane... already assembled, ready to fly (sometimes with full fuel tank) in the back of my van. Toss in an empty cardboard box if I think its needed to keep the plane from rolling around... off I go.
