Default ca hinges help!

I know this is a simple question, but I'm assembling my first plane here! The ca hinges that came with my arf has a slot halfway through the hinge. does the slot go parallel to the wing? Please help!

The slot goes such that it points fore and aft. If you do it the other way, you'll have 70% less hinge area to support the control surfaces.

USE THIN CA! Med or thick RUINS the hinges.
