Default Nose dive

Hi. I'm new to RCU and the hobby in general. Thanks in advance for the help!

I've a Telemaster 40 that I built and flew without guidance or an instructor and I feel very fortunate to still have it all in one piece! I've put about a dozen flights on the plane and my landings are getting better...at least it's staying upright and my blood pressure is back to reasonable levels!

The issue is this: I switched over from a black plastic type master airscrew prop (11X7) to a TF powerpoint (11X6) when I felt that my landings were somewhat reliable. BTW, the tele is powered by a OS .46LA. With the wooden prop the plane wants to dive even with considerable up trim. Should I add weight to the nose (how much???) or just go back to heavy, ugly, clunky black props? I bought 6 of those wood sticks- it'd be nice to use them!

The other thing..I've got the itch and am already looking for second planes. I live in Montana were the snow is deep and the wind blows 360 out of 365 days. I like 1/5 scale cubs, hog-bipe, venture 60 and the smaller of the sig spacewalkers. What do you all think? Which planes like fly'n off snow on windy days?

Thanks for the help.

Easy part first. A great second plane is the 4 Star 40 or 60, Tiger 60 or better yet for the winds would be a pattern style plane ( Javelin II, Tower Hobbies Kaos and the like).
If the plane is diving, the last thing to do is stick weight in the nose. I fly the Power Point and have yet to see that effect. Something else is going on.

Check the center of gravity again. Make sure it's still within the recommended range. That plane should be a floater and not want to come down, so something else is wrong. Going from a 7 pitch prop to a six shouldn't matter that much either. You will lose some top-end speed, but not enough to make the nose drop. Recheck the CG and trim the plane up in the air at half throttle. When you have it flying straight and level hands-off, see how much trim is on the transmitter levers. Readjust your control surface clevises to center the trim levers on the transmitter and then try it again. The difference in weight from a wooden prop to a plastic one isn't enough to affect flight that much.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad I asked first about adding mass...not sure where I picked up the idea that a nose heavy plane would actually be more inclined to head up rather than into the ground. I'll check the CG and try to correct the problem with trim before doing anything else. I'd like to stick with wood props as it seems to have dampened the major engine vibration that I experienced from a balanced master airscrew.

Thanks for the help...I've been really impressed with this bank of experience! Exactly what I need fending for myself in a very cool, yet seemingly unforgiving hobby.

Cheers.

Somethng caused it other than the prop...

MAYBE the higher pitch prop masked a problem... but I bet that if yuo go back to it you have the same problem as with the new prop.

You mentin that the plane has had a few bumpy landings... Maybe there is something broken that you haven't noticed. Lok the model over VERY carefully.
Try to wiggle the stabilizer and fin... see if they are still firmly glued on.
Check the wing saddle to see if a support brace has come unglued allowing the front portion to drop. (that would change the wing incidence and get the EXACT result you have...)

My bet is something broke.

**** check that the control horn of the elevator isn't pulling off. Check ALL pushrods clevices servo arms... and see if the servo tray is comming out of the airplane.
