Default Whats going on with OS ?

I see in Towers latest catalog the O.S. LA 40 is selling for 59.00$
You can get a GMS or Magnum engine BB to boot for 15-20-more !
Why would you bother with the LA is it that great of an engine ?

Yipp, yer right, but they make profits selling them to those Budget-Restricted people, I was seriously considering one when I got started (only 5 months ago!)

This is how it goes : La $59.99 for 15-20 bucks more I can get a Magnum .40 XLS! Hmm but for 15-20 bucks more I can get a Magnum .46 XLS! Yeah, but for 15-20 bucks more I can get an OS .46 AX, yeah, but for 15-20 bucks more I can get a YS .40! yeah, but for 15-20 bucks more I can get a Magnum .52 4-stroke! It goes on and on and on. That's why it doesn't work like that. There has to be engines for budget-restricted people who can't afford to plunk down the 15-20 dollars for a better engine. Cuz in this hobby its not all rich people. (not to glame)

There's the price thing, and the fact that so many of the old timers swear by OS. They could make an engine with a remote needle valve that took a torx driver, took a special expensive OS Only glow plug, and needed 30% fuel, and people would still buy it. - Joe

well, i see both sides of thei thing. os is pricey, for some too pricey. hoever, when you buy under the os name, you know what kind of product service you are getting and os parts are available readily; probably more so than any other brand. if you are a big engine guy, os may not be the brand for you. personally, the better performing one is for me. YS!

OS engines are overpriced, and the thing that really gets me is that every time time I try to start one, it fires up immediately, DARN YOU OS!

My .02
I have 2 OS engines and both perform flawlessly.
Edited: Sorry meant to say 3.
2 OS 32's & one OS .65 ALL perform flawlessly.

you do have to admit. they are not designed to be high performance engines but they run very well without flaws or nasty habbits.

You will stay with that engine for how many years, 5? 10? 15?
Everything will wear out or will be broken. Not an engine.
20 or 40 $ is not too much compare to 5 - 10 years of time. Even for a kid.
I am not a big fan of OS engines, I am a fan of Saito and ST. With brand names you will spend your time at field flying under any weather conditions, with any fuel. Especially if you are novice.
With another engines you will probably get the same or close experience, not troubles. But who wants to find that out on his own?
Do you want to buy no name brand just to throw it away? We are all not so rich to pay twice.
At the same time, for the trainer it is not a bad idea to buy OS LA because of the risk to crush the plane and to loose the engine.
