Is it best to buy a flight pack as oppsoed to buying everything indivdually? Whats the pro's and con's?

Generally you can buy the flight pack cheaper than buying the items individually. Thats about the only difference i can see.

If you get fussier and want "that exact receiver" and "those servos" you will wind up buying them separately.

I found when pricing Airtronics flight packs, that the price of a flight pack was about the same as the basic 4 channel radio...so, I just bought the cheapest 4 channel, kept the battery pack and antenna(both of which fit my RD6000) and gave away the rest of the TX to the club to use as a buddy box.

with most brands, it you want a standard RX, standard servos and a standard battery... the full 4-channel system is the way to get it. That extra TX and the charger turn out essentially free that way. Some basic 4 channel sets, you can specify upgrade servos and/or a different RX... and still be cheaper than the separate items... so its always worth investigating.

As above... if you don't need the extra TX... its a great donation to the club as a buddy box. If its a Futaba... you can keep the TX battery and have a spare for your better TX

I like flight packs because I use a 6XAS computer radio. Servo City sells custom Hitec Flight packs. 2 to 5 servos - your choice of type, choice of battery NiCad or NiMh and size plus a choice of different Hitec receivers. I'm buying a pack that has 3-425, 2-475, Supreme 7 channel receiver with crystal and a 1000 NiCad battery pack for 135.00. Good deal.

I always pruchase individual pieces. That way I get just what I want.

For me I have looked at flight packs and they do save a lot of money if it is what you need. Some planes require a higher torque range then others and most flight packs just have standard, or at least the JR ones do. If it is a trainer or low speed one get a flight pack, if it is a higher speed or stress plane don't.

Radio and electronics i believe are your most important items and should never be kimped on to get a cheap one. Your electronics stay with you,( most of the time) the plane will probably be crashed some time. Get decent electrics. Spend some cash.

As pointed out above, Servo City offers the 'best of both worlds' if you want to use Hitec electronics in your plane. If you want Futaba, they have several 'stock' flight packs to choose from.

In Hitec, they offer several 'pre-selected' packs; or you can create a totally custom pack with exactly the components you want for less dollars than buying individual components.
