Do you have a local hobby shop around?
They know all the instructors and can direct you.

yes, we have a local hobby shop in Portland, Me. I am the kind of person that does everything on my own. So naturally I thought I would buy a plane and fly it on my own. After reading countless hours of postings in here I have to say I agree that I need an instructor. I will go speak with them.

Not only speak with the local hobby shop.....join a flying club. There are instructors there willing to train you for free as well as providing a field to fly from. Get your AMA insurance and prepare yourself for the most fulfilling experience of your life.

AMA insurance is supplemental insurance you get when you join the AMA
You must first follow the safety guidelines set down by the AMA
Its insurance coverage for things such as damage to personal property done by your plane or injury to others.
It doesn't cover replacement of your plane just the damage that can be done by it.
