My first day at the field (and solo)
Just went to the field today and had my first flight. I was there waiting for a couple of hours b/c no one had a JR buddy box. Finally someone said that they would take the plane up and give me the controls. After flying for a couple of minutes I had him land it to see if it was difficult to land. After that I took off and landed myself two times (no help during the flight at all). And I must say that the landings were pretty good.
Man this is fun. I cant wait to go back out.

Good deal!
Now... don't get overconfident. (and don't bump the trims) Overconfidence can ruin an airplane QUICK.
I assume you did a lot of practice on the simulator... and you paid good attention to what the guy who helped you said. Otherwise.. it would be nearly impossible to do that well. I have only seen one other person able to fly on his own after just one training flight. (He had destroued 3 airplanes before he got any help...)

Thanks, I will surely keep everything the same for quite a while. I cant afford ( literally) to be overconfident.
And as far as the simulator, I have been practicing more than I have liked to (but I knew that I was saving myself money in the long run).

Congrats, Keep on the simulator, it will pay for itself and make you a better pilot. Start practicing what you want to do, ie; aerobatics and cross wind landings.

Pete,
That would depend. I'd say you could do it, providing that you've flown a number of quick electrics, or large gliders, AND have at least 50 hours on a good flight simulator like Real Flight. And that you've mastered landing planes in the sim with 5 to 8 mph crosswinds.
Otherwise, get help.
By the way, there are I believe, a couple of clubs pretty close to you. Even if there aren't, it would be worth the drive to our field in Westborough a couple of times.
I don't know if you've flown anything, and if you have what, but unless your experience is fairly extensive, I hope your "first glow plane" is a trainer.
Try this site: http://www.modelaircraft.org/
They have a "club locater" page. Just plug in your Zip Code.

GOOD job! As you can see from my Gallery, a gorgeous Sig SE met its death because I was getting too confident too fast and all it took was a second of not paying attention and 50ft off the ground you cant afford that. Altitude is your friend!

I went out and took her up again today at a large field by my house (I live in the country). I had two successful flights and was about to take it up again untill I stepped on the horozonal stabalizer. [>:] It didnt break it but it did seperate it just a little bit. It may have been able to fly but I have too much moey in this hobby to "take a chance". Oh well, It wont be diffictult to fix and I will be flying again soon.
btw I just wanted to mention that all of the people in this hobby that I have come in contact with has been very friendly. (Including people at RCU.

Sweet! Good job! That IS pretty rare to pick it up that fast--- But is good news nonetheless...
Just remember to pre-flight your "investment", keep those airborn batts charged, and like above those trims centered!
You are sure to get addicted- in fact you should go ahead and start building a SIG 4*40
Congrats again!
