Default Trainer Tail Dragger Conversion

Hi

I have a trainer that I want to fly off a fairly bumpy strip .
Is a tail dragger more suited to rough ground.
If so would a trainer be suitable for conversion.

I was flying a Limbo Dancer tail dragger from this strip and it was fine, I haven't flown a nose wheeled model on it and am worried it might catch an flip over.

Thanks

What size wheels do you have? Bigger might be better.

Standard trainer size wheels 2inch approx.

I guess bigger wheels will make it better, but is a tail dragger fundermentally better on rough ground and is a trainer type model suitable for conversion?

We fly off a grass strip. Most people with trainers here have converted to tail draggers. It is much easier off grass. With tri gear, your going to have problems with the front wheel. It' an easy conversion on a trainer, but well worth the effort.

A taildragger is more suited to rough ground, from the standpoint that you can control the prop clearance to a greater degree than with tricycle gear..... but this depends a great deal on your skill level... tricycle gear can help keep the prop out of the dirt, but it can also dig in, if you get unlucky. <Kind of like a baseball infielder getting a "bad bounce.">
as long as you've mastered flying a taildragger, you'd probably find it easier to get it off a rough field than the same airplane with a tricycle layout.
and yes, almost any trainer can be modified to a taildragger....
specifically what trainer are we talking about?

It's a Seagull Jumper 25.

Hopefully it will have the power to pull itself off a rough grass strip.

Default Wheel size

We fly off a rough grass field. I have tried wheels from 2" to 3 1/2" and found that 3" is the magic number. Smaller causes the wheels to try and push through the grass rather than ride on top of it. This causes a lot of drag and slow runway speeds. Larger than 3" causes other problems. Also be sure to buy wheels with the words Light Weight or Feather Weight on the package. The weight of 3 of these is lighter than the weight of 1 Low Bounce type and well worth the few extra dollars they cost! Have fun, Fast!
