is it just me or does everyone have problems with getting altitude with their plane when their is little to no wind?? i know the instrustions say to fly it then but i can't get it but about 50 ft if that?

and also i can hear my motor cutting off on me sometimes, is that a problem with my remote or is the batteries getting to hot??

It would help to know more info... What kind of plane/engine for instance.

If your flying a 60 size airplane with a 35 engine, you're lucky you can GET 50ft.
You also refer to "Motor" and batteries. Is this a Glow or Electric model?

Ummm... I think some more info is needed, I have to assume we're talking electric powered park flyer of some sort....
My G-62 powered stinger takes off space-shuttle style with no wind.... :rainfro:
if you're also having problems with the electric motor cutting out, that sounds to me the reason you're having climb trouble, <No motor, no power, no climb.>
I'd assume your speed controller uses a Battery eliminator circuit, (BEC) which shuts the motor down when the batt's are nearly depleted, and most have an emergency feature that turns the motor back on, after having the throttle at idle for a second or 2.
if i've made all the correct assumptions, either you are not charging the batteries fully, or there's something wrong with your speed controller or the BEC is set improperly.
any chance of a little more info?

the only thing I see in the manual that deals with this is the batteries not being fully charged....
I don't want to offend, as I don't know your level of proficiency, but you are aware, for example, that the motor is either ON or OFF, and that it's only ON when you have the throttle stick held fully forward. if it's still giving you trouble, I'd suggest contacting HobbyPeople.

The problem is all to familiar to me.......

I had a Wattage Light Stik. I had a single conversion rx and was getting bad interference. When I got more than 50 or so feet away, the motor would start cutting in and out like you said. I was not able to gain any more altitude due to the motor not running the full time. I checked the capacitor on the motor and added a couple more to the case with no affect. I ended up putting one of my JR rx's in it and it worked fine from then on. Try routing your antenna differently and check the capacitors on your motor.

I read a post somewhere where a guy had a problem like that and come to find out he had his prop on backwards...Just a thought........John

All I can tell you is that the wind, or lack of it, has nothing to do with your problem. The planes airspeed with a given angle of attack will be the same regardless of the wind, therefore your climb rate will be the same. It'll just look different from the ground.

Scooby... are you saying that the plane does seem to climb well when there is wind but not when it's calm?

If so, I'm wondering how much wind there is when it does well... and whether the calm days are hazy, thin overcast types with lots and lots of humidity and not a breath of air moving anywhere... any of that hold true?

I been having the same problem with my wind cruiser. Aside for the motor being intermittent, I couldn't get any altitude at all. It would maybe get to 20 to 30 feet and that was all. But I must say at about 30 feet the plane flew OK.

I kinda got sick of the rate of climb, so I changed the 6 cell into a 7 cell. I took all the shrink wrap off and install the 7th cell in front, right in the middle. the weight added was about 4oz. I added a little less than half of that to the tail and took it to the park...

It flew like a complete different plane. With Full throttle it took off like rocket and maitains level flight with a bit more than half throttle. The added weight didn't seem to affect it at all.

The ESC seems to take ok too.

I'm now thinking of sticking my micro servos and receiver in it so I can get get some v tail mixing so i can control the ascent and descent.

really? i done sent mine back, but i doubt they will give me my refund back but if they send it back i might try that, i ordered a t-hawk and it has a 380 motor too, and it has 7 cell batteries that came with it, and it has tons more power than the wind cruiser did, so i guess the extra battery makes a difference hehe

Default A good Electric

You might want to try a Zagi if you are into electrics. This little gem can do loops and rolls and has a fairly decent climb rate. I took mine up to about 200 feet in the middle of summer. The air gets really thin here in Arizona but the plane still flies like a champ. I am into gas planes but ocasionally my friends and I do combat with our zagi's. Most Hobby shops have these little wonders and they sell for about $125-$135 with the batteries. I would reccomend getting the Zagi-X due to its carbon rod and bigger battery for just a few more dollars than the standard Zagi.
