well so far i like the site, this place is great
now on to what i found this wekend that made me get back into the airplane hobbie
some poor fella had his house repoed and under it was a two airplanes one with a o.s. 40 sf having problems with it, it is frozen or locked but i have that fixed but i will need some one to tell me where to get fuel for it and how to get it running, such as do i need a starter or a stick and what type of plug heater to use or what is recomened
and that is not all a 6ch radio with 3 servos in each plane with batterys and charger
know what i have that runs is one of those cheap cox gee beez the strofoam ones so what i had plained to do was to take the OS 40 and make it fit and run that thing like that going from a .036 to a .40 that should make a differance in its take off and performance

There were 2 model airplanes under his house? You mean like in a crawl space?
OK, well...
Your best bet in getting this stuff working would probably to talk with someone in a local club or at a local hobby shop. Don't sell anything until you get a couple estimates on what it's all worth. They might be computer radios, or antiques, etc.
As for putting the OS .40 in a Cox foam plane, I don't think that would work too well. That size engine is not going to fit very well, and if you did make it fit it would make the plane extremely nose-heavy. And if you added weight to the tail to balance it, it would probably be too heavy to get off the ground. And if it did get off the ground the power of the .40 would probably pull the foam wings off. I think you would be better off to get one (or both) of the planes you found working again.
Of course, I could be wrong about the Cox plane. They are usually very underpowered.
All in all, sounds like a lucky find!

First, welcome to RCU. You're right, it's a great place.
Don't try putting one of those engines on the Cox, you WILL rip the wings off it. And if you're planning on trying to fly one of those 40 size planes on your own, please make sure that you have at least 10 to 15 acres of clear land; no trees, no houses, no busy roads or cars around, and no kids or small animals.
3 people were killed by glow planes last year, and you don't want to add to that by killing anyone else.
Your best bet really would be to find a club and go talk with the guys there. they'll be willing to help you get going.
The AMA website ha a "Club locater" page. Just plug in your Zip Coe and you'll get a list of local clubs.

Fuel for our our engines (10% Nitro glow fuel) should be available at almost any hobby shop for about $15 to $20 per gallon.
Good Luck,
Dennis-

the radio is a Futaba CONQUEST FP-T6NFK FM
i got the engine rotating but i will need a rebuilt kit to replace the front seal and the rear seal and possably a new carb inless i can get this one fixed
yea you probaly right about riping the wings off but i wanted to see it it would hover with that power and it more than likely would, but what would be a good cheap strong and forgiving airframe to use and what eles could i use this engine in ie car boat ect.. the two airframes i have are trasted the frame is twisted like a cork screw and the other was just the front end with the servos still hanging on. i am not sure if the servos still work the charger is not working but that is a eazy fix or the battery my just need to be replaced i have no idea how long it was dow under the house or how long it was under the junk pile by the road. i sure ther are more parts under the the rest of that mess but i could not see or get to it. such as the wings and or a starter that it looks like was used on the cone. thanks again pilotbrown

From: gone,
Sounds like the place the stuff was stored was damp...
You will need to get ALL of the stuff inspected by someone that knows what the innards of the radio equip should look like. If the circuit boards in the transmitter, reciever or servos are corroded... you should not use the stuff until it is properly serviced. (and that may be more expensive than getting new stuff.
)
Anyone that has flown RC for more than a couple of years has looked inside the radio equip (or they are not normal red blooded American males. [&:] ) Its not hard to see if the boards have a corrosion problem.
It is probable that the batteries are no good... If you find a local club, one of the members should have a cycler that he can test the batteries with if there is any chance that they are good. (they can sometimes tell just by looking at the batteries... if they are REALLY bad.)
Don't go buying stuff to fix what you have until someone looks at it and tells you if its worth fixing. (there may be good reason it was tossed in a trash pile...)

the batterys look to be in great shape i tested the charger and it does not work so i have a nother one i can use but i have had not had time to pull it out. the servos work you can turn them with you hand they feel like they should two of them do not move however but that is still four that do. i opend the raido TX and there is no crosion or any other signs of problems so untill i get a charger i will not know for sure. so what fuel is best or the best to start off using? also are there seal replacement parts the front one leaks as well as the back. i need a new air frame to start off with waht one would be the best/ more forgiving in the event of a crash, or the eazyest to rebuilt?

I am sure that you read the advice above, but here I will summarize it for you:
Have someone with experience look it over. Either someone in a club near you (I imagine there should be one in Charleston, not too far from you) or at a hobby shop.
For the best airplane to buy, look for an instructor and see what he/she recommends. There isn't a best when it comes to a basic trainer. They are all good. Also ask at the hobby shop.
Flying model aircraft is a lot of fun. But if you have to worry about the equipment, that adds another component to the learning process. It is much better to have everything checked out so that you can be trained easier. If the battery looks good to you but only lasts for 5 minutes under load, you will end up replacing the airplane that crashed, along with the battery, and maybe everything.
Yes you may have gotten some good stuff for free. Or you may have gotten junk. Get some help from someone that can actually help you look things over. We do not know ( how can we? ) based on descriptions that you have given.
