Default OS .46 on ebay

Is it worth the extra few bucks to buy a motor from a reputable company so that the warranty is good? There are a few good deals on 0s .46's running through ebay from time to time. What is your opinion on this?

MOST deals on EBay are OK. Just make sure of the value. Compare the cost PLUS shipping of the engine NEW against the price PLUS shipping on Ebay. I have gotten some good deals on EBay and RC Universe.

Personally, including what the person wants for shipping, I won't pay over 60% of the new price including shipping. The warrany is worth something to me AND you do not know how the engine has been broken in/treated. I have had good luck. The engines I have purchased have all been good.

I got a GMS .47 II from eBay, including 3 props, an adjustible engine mount and 2 extra glow plugs for less than the price of the engine itself including shipping, handling and insurance.

Larry

--== edit ==-- The engine was new in box. The adjustible engine mount looks like it has been CA'd together. Will have to figure out how to break it apart so I can use it elsewhere.

I bought a OS .46 FX on Ebay. Great price and it was brand new. Keep an eye on the sellers history.

Oh! Another thing I did was to find an engine I may bid on then come here to RCU and find out what other people thought of it.

Good Luck

Im looking now to buy a Magnum XL46.

Since you asked for opinions, here is mine. I do not buy off of Ebay. I purchase all my engines at the local hobby shop. Why is that? Because for me, I would rather pay extra for a brand new engine than take a chance buying an engine that I may have to throw away. I have heard that there are good deals on ebay, but most of the time what I see ends up costing more with shipping than if I buy it new at the LHS. One engine I bought at the hobby shop had a bad front bearing out of the box. The shop manager ordered a new bearing, then replaced it when the part came in, as I was leary of doing it myself. That was the second engine that I have ever had. If I had that problem with an engine that I bought off of ebay, he would have ordered the part, charged me for it, then charged for installation. He also told me that if replacing the front bearing did not solve the leak at the thrust washer (which it did), he would replace it and send the old one back. Try and get that kind of service from ebay! It helps knowing where the guy lives too

This is what I do for a new person in the hobby ( I own a store). I'll show you what I think will work best for you, because i want you to come back. If I have a used engine (Iknow the history) I'll offer it first. If your short of money I'll give you thirty days interest free to pay for it. I'll call the companies for you if you have trouble. And lastly I'll also will be at the field every Sunday to help you, because I want you to have as much fun as I do. And all this is free. Try that on E-Bay.

If you are considering an OS .46 FX I recall seeing that Chief Aircraft (www.chiefaircraft.com) had some good deals on them new. These engines are discontinued, however, so they may have sold out on all their remaining stock. Don't forget to put your email address in on their main radio control page to have them email you their monthly specials. This is where they show their best deals.

Chief had the 46 fx for 85.00 and the ax for 92.00. I bought one of the fx engines. They no longer have either. Almost every engine on ebay is advertised as "like new - only one tank used for break in" Ebay is pretty good for new servos but I don't think I would buy an engine there.
