I have a 16-17 year old Olympic 2 that I only flew a few times and then quit the sport. I am trying to set it back up and get going again. Does anyone know where the correct CG is on the wing? I'm trying to balance it but can't without that point. Is a 600ma battery OK?

Should I recover this plane since it is so old? The transparent covering seems to be fine, but I am worried about it's age vs flex/brittleness factor.

I have an oly also. It is about 15 years old and still flies awesome. I set up a camera on the underside of the wing and take aerial photos with it. THE CORRECT CG IS ON THE MAIN SPAR.... You can almost always never go wrong by checking the CG on the main spar of the wing. 99 % of the time that is right on . Especially w/ floaters

Has your model been stored in a place with a fairly constant temperature? Most covering will last indefinitely under the right conditions. If it has been exposed to high heat as in an attic or garage ceiling or conversely in the cold of a garage it might be well to do a punch test as used on full scale aircraft. I-26 driver is right abut the balance point. Most models are designed with the main spar as a balance point because it is usually the longest part of the span. As to a 600 mAh battery that is fine if the voltage is correct. I use a 2400 mAh in my sailplanes and pay the penalty in weight in exchange for longer run times.

PS ....

After you fly the OLY for a while and get used to it again. Try balancing it a little tail heavy probably about 1/2 inch from the CG. It will thermal better and slow down really nice in a thermal. You will outrun alot of guys in a thermal because you can slow it down SOOOOOO slow.

It is way tail heavy right now. but if I put two 600ma batteries, it will balance about 1/4" back. So I will try this and see what happens. I would rather add the weight with something useful. I think the covering is good. Thanks for the help.
