My club has recently been looking into ways of putting in a hardened runway at our club. We have plenty of property to play with and our current grass strip is 50+ x 150+ yds. We own alot of the surrounding property so are not limited to our current strip.
What are our options for building a hardened surface? Issues we are addressing are $cost$, maintenance required (to build and maintain), and effectivness and reliability of finished product.
Any suggestions?

Herc, you have to just do some standard research on installing a driveway or something of the sort. They can answer all of your questions about this. There might be some zoning laws and some permits you might have to get. Even though this will be an R/C application, it is probably no different from installing any other surface, just cruise the yellow pages and call a few folks.

Dude, not a good idea! Next time you screw up the landing your gonna break more than your wing tip and firewall.
Just to let you know, Rich had his plane up for the first time last night. Flew real nice. Both got memberships, Mine almost done.

Haha ****, You should have come up a week later. I just got back from the Jet rally this weekend good show with only one splash down that I know of. Partly the reason we want a hardened runway... Avro Arrow inducted fan doesn't like grass strips.
