Default Crystal replacement...

I just recieved my new 7c radio. My Nexstar was on ch 38. My new transmitter is on 39. The reason for switching channels is because a guy has a scanner at my club and said 38 showed to be a bad channel because of some kinda of interference. Now he tells me after 2 months of flying. Not wanting to take a chance though. So I did not want to put my new reciever in my Nexstar, just wanted to use the transmitter. So I pulled out the 38 crystal from the nexstars reciever and replaced it with the 39 from my new setup. It works fine just want to know is there like a positive and a negative on crystals? Just wanting to know if there is a wrong way to put it in.

It doesn't matter which way you plug it in.

Too bad ole Huber still aint around, lol.

Even though you asked about rx, he'd give ya the entire lecture about how changing tx crystals is illegal.

He would initiate the discussion then cry the entire thread as people gave him hell.

Hey Wings,

Why did you go and mention old Huber's name? You know that kind of stuff is bad voodoo. He may actually show up again. Yikes!!!!!

The rule is you can change receiver crystals if you stay in the same lower or upper part of the band. I don't know the cutoff for upper or lower. The ban on changing transmitter crystals makes sense as they transmit and are capable of causing interferrence if something isn't done right. Okay, how can you screw up a crystal change? I know, I know. Anyway, that's the law.

You think Huber would preach a sermon on crystal polarity? Nah, he wouldn't be that idiotic, would he? Would he? Stop laughing and answer my question dammit!

I don't know why I thought of him. He is the type of guy that would call the police to have you arrested for spitting on the sidewalk, lol.

All right, enough Huber bashing, he isn't here to defend himself.

That upper-lower band thing only applies to Futaba receivers. Hi-Tech apparently has no such hangups.

Right. Futaba has chosen to break their receiver frequencies into High and Low band supposedly for better tuning.

Low band is 11 through 35, high is 36 through 60. Changing a receiver crystal from 38 to 39 in any radio equipment will not cause a problem, just don't do it on the Transmitter.

FHHuber got on my nerves on occassion too, but he at least really DID provide some good information.

According to the manufacturer,i can go up or down several frequencys but going from 58 to say the mid 40's might need to recalibrate the tx.

Peaked my attention. Is not changing a tx crystal really something people do? Sounds to me like its regular practice to change the transmitter crystal without any thought to legalities. Is this not the case?

I have heard changing tx crystals is wide spread and accepted by more than just a few flying fields in some places in texas but not around here,if somebody changed there's how would you know ?.i'm not planning on changing mine but if i did,i would get the tx certified and field checked before i flew. When i get thru with my buddy box i might send it and have a crystal installed in case something goes screwy with my other tx.

It is ok to do it if you are certified. So in your case (of sending it in), it would be legal.

Changing the Tx crystal by aving it sent in out be done by a qualified technician who has the equipment needed to do it right is far different than it being done by someone who doesn't know what he's doing. THOSE are the guys I was referring to.

Huh?What happened to FHHuber?

He wasn't that mean to me although one particular comment made by him to MikeMc was kinda mean.

Did he leave? How come I don't know about this?

Yub,

Apparently FHHubber was banned by this site for his attitude problem....

DBCherry,

Couldn't agree with you more. While he was a pain at times, he always took the time to try and provide helpfull suggestions in his posts.

He pretty much had the right answer every time he replied to a post. He was stealing a lot of thunder from other people here and didn't like to share. Some people would lurk behind every thread he was involved in, intensley researching for the slightest error on his part and scramble to be the first one to point it out and be a hero. When he did slip up which was very very uncommon, he caught pure he**.

I'd have to agree with you there!!! Go back and read some of the posts of the guy who originally started bashing Fhubber in this thread its pretty funny since unlike Fhubber most of his posts are phrased in the form of a question

Ok, I'm confused. Where can I go to read about this? I was under the impression that changing a tx crystal was ok so long as you were within a certain range (speaking specifically for Futaba which has upper and lower).

You can search the radio forum for more info but To read about it go to the FCC website it is a FCC regulation on the band we share with other users. Our freqs are considered secondary and cannot interfere with the Primary (i.e. paying) users.

What you can do is change the crystal in your rx to find more about this for futaba look at there web site

Huber made some gross mistakes in his comments about rotary wing resonance and I posted the correct info. He didn't like that. Okay, I was sarcastic, but he had a real attitude about it and was dead wrong about some things. He did have the opinion that he was always right and everyone else be damned.

blwblw,

Could you post I link to that thread I read many of his posts and found most of his suggestions to be on the mark. Although in the end it was his attitude that got him kicked out of here. I just found it amusing to see who it was that decided to to start bashing him in this thread.

He was so right so often that to find a mistake was a real feather in the cap of the one who discovered the mistake. I think he felt like a piece of jewlery being inspected under a loupe.

Default RE: Just heard.

I just heard that JR will no longer sell radio crystals between channels 11-14 because they have discovered that those
channels will bleed onto channels 54-58.

I think they are supposed to put out an alert soon.
