My First Solo Flight
#1
My First Time out i Buddy Box'd and did not Take Off or Land
Today No Buddy Box and my First Solo flight
At First i swear i started the plane up and this guy was like "if you havent taken off or landed or been properly trained your gonna crash"
so guess what this guy does says "How about this, ill take the plane off and then pass the Controler to you" and i was like "ok sounds good" cause yeah i propbley would of crashed and he had a very nice plane "ok he knows how to fly". that plane didnt even make it off the ground i just seen it doing cartwheels down the runway and was like well there goes my brand new plane. then after going on a walk and geting the plane that guy just leaves and doesnt even say sorry or nothing but
The plane was fine
then i took off and landed and did fine Woohoo!!!
its a very nice plane i swear i flew it for over a half hour at like 20% throttle untill running out of fuel
its a very good trainer

no i had my plane out on the field "nexstar"
me and this guy "my trainer" were talking and he was gonna take MY plane up but ended up crashing it.
then my instuctor packed his plane up and left and then after inspecting my plane seeing that it was OKAY i took my plane up with no problem
good times

Man, this sounds totally shady. I hope it doesn't happen to me on my first time 'round. But as I understand the field where I'll be flying has a lot of active and nice members, so I'm not too worried.
So, let's get this straight. You've never flown before and the first time the thing rolled down the runway it was by an 'instructor' who wasn't really your instructor...and he didn't even manage to get it off the ground? Then while retrieving your semi-crashed plane the 'instructor' ditched out. Meanwhile, it's never been trimmed or checked properly by an instructor, you've never used a buddy box and no real instructor has taken you out to learn the basics?! I'd have to say that you're pretty lucky to have not hurt yourself, the plane or anyone else that might have been near. I made the foolish mistake 10 years ago with my avistar not to have an instructor, and if I had one s/he probably would've noticed some build problems because (aside from it being my fault) the two times I got to fly something went wrong (not directly my fault). The first flight I was doing great, flying circles and stuff when the entire thing shut off. Engine cut and the servos locked, it glided into a tree (we got it down and there was considerable damage). Second time I lost orientation and darted it into the ground. B0rk3d the firewall, propeller, needle, dings in the wing, holes in the covering, etc, etc, etc. It was a sure lesson of what NOT to do! I don't have the money to be crashing planes like that even now...I'm goin 'round the right way this time. I hope you get an honerable person to help you out next time you're at the field. I think your bag of luck will be empty before you know it [

my first flight i was properly trained and was told the ups and downs and lefts and rights [8D] and my instuctor was a very skilled pilot
he trimed my plane and made sure it was safe and ready to fly, then we buddy box'd for a while i didnt land or take off
so then the following week i went to the field and there was a bunch of new guys i never met B4, well the one guy sure acted like he knew his stuff so i kind of had some trust in him, and i said to him "How about you get the plane up in the air and then hand me the Radio" he said ok sure then crashed it. Then while i was retriving my crashed plane that i didnt even crash he went to the Channel Board axadently grabed my AMA card off the channel i was useing and said "Okay Guys i gotta take off "GOODLUCK" and left. So not only did he crash my plane, he took my AMA card "Good thing he left his AMA card and his Field Membership Card there Muhahaha " wellllll then after he left another guy there was like "That guy is a idiot you shouldnt of let him fly your plane" OOPS on my part but then i was instucted by another guy and i did fine took off and flew for about 20 min and landed, then i took off again flew for another 10 15 mins and landed had a great time...... my second flight is gonna be in 2 more days woohooo!!!!!

One piece of advice I got here on RCU while looking in the beginner forum was that you do have a choice in who trains you...you don't have to be forced into someone you don't like or don't think has the skills. I'm going to be spending probably quite a bit of time at my local field meeting people before I have the funds to get my radio/club dues/ama so I'm sure I'll have a good idea which instructors are good, which guys are dopes, etc. Some people are just cocky. Personally, I don't even like the idea of having the responsibility over someone elses plane. I doubt I'll ever be an instructor just for that reason...too bad you got suckered by an idiot (no less took your clip and left his, he was obviously rushing). It's just plain disrespectful and cowardly for whomever that was to leave after crashing another persons plane!. Not even a 'sorry,' I hope you never see him again, but if I were you, when I did see him he'd get a piece of my mind...and my foot, for sure (no not really, just getting upset thinking if it'd happened to me)...better luck next time.

P-51 Mustang Here i Come!!!! any day now ill be in a warbird

I was lucky when i was instructed. i had been to the feild a couple of times the years before i had even bought a plane and taled to the guys about how to get into this hobby, and what planes would be good to get (shooting the shat...). so this spring after i got all of my equpiment i needed i contacted the cheif flying instructor but he said I might be waiting for about a month before i could get up for instruction. But my dad works with the club president ( Canadian Airforce HQ ). and before my instructor left to go overseas for a 6 month tour he kindly tought me. he was a very nice and calm person. I would say i couldn't have had anyone better to instruct me.
