Hi all:
Sorry if this is a frequently asked question but I've searched trhe forums and haven't found an answer - honest
I've seen some flyers that have a caculator looking thing attached to their antenna that seems to be a timer of sorts. I'm assuming that this is to give them an idea on when they'll run out of fuel but I didn't think ask the guy who was running one today just WTH it was before I left the field
Can someone give me a name of a maker or a link to something like what I'm talking about? it seems like it'd be a pretty common piece of equipment to have and I want one
Thanks in advance!

I use a digital kitchen timer. You can find them in the kitchen utensil isle at Wal-Mart or K-Mart type stores.
I set mine for 10 - 12 minutes depending on the plane I'm flying.
Hope this helps,

I use a cheap-o sports watch with a timer that counts down from a predetermined point. An alarm sounds when it gets to zero. I typically set mine to 10 - 12 minutes also.

Hi,
WillMcCaskill is right the modern radios like my New FF9 Cap, had one built in soo you simply run the plane till the fuel runs out then set the timer a minute or so before so it gives you time to land and it bleps loud to alert you
But i guess another simple egg timer or something will work as well, just another thing to carry thou

One Mississippi.... Two mississippi..... Three missisippi.... you get the idea.
Seriously, I've got a 9C, kind of cool when the countdown timer runs out and it starts beeping like it's going to explode. Lets the other pilots know to get behind the Jersey Barricades because I'm comin on in!

One mississippi... hehe nice
Seriously though - thanks for the input and feeback. It probably was just something like an egg timer-type thing I saw. I've got a beginers radio so it doesn't have the LCD displays or anything. That's why I was looking for an add-on.
Off to the mall I go!

My 9C has one, but my 6XAS's don't so I use the "egg timer" with them.
It really helps a lot if you push the button to start the timer, though....

The ones sold through www.talkingtimer.com appears to be the same as one formerly sold at radio shack.
