Default fuel soaked wood

What is the best way to cover wood that has glow fuel in it. Recovering old trainer with Koverall and nitrate-the wood is not sanding well and sort of gummy-thanks for any help-already tried to clean with alcohol and scrapeing with razor-

Spray the wood with the carpet cleaner K2R it will float the oil right out of the wood. You should be able to wipe off the white powder that results and sand. If its pretty soaked, you might need a couple applications. I had the whole front fall off a Super Sportster 40. The airplane lasted for years and the fuel finally got into the joints. A little K2R and some monokote and it was good as new.

Barracudahockey has a good idea. Balsa Rite used to advertise that their film product would help covering stick to even fuel soaked wood. If, after you get the oil out with K2R, it couldn't hurt to cover the surface with a little Balsa Rite for film. It also comes in a product for cloth covering. Use the right one.
