Default Goldberg Tiger 60 ARF

I just completed my Tiger 60 ARF. I used a Saito 72 for power and it was extremely tail heavy. It took 8 ounces to get the nose heavy enough to balance properly. Seems like a lot but it flys great. It is very sensitive. Is this normal for this plane?

If it's very sensitive, you could try adding still more nose weight.

If you want to avoid that, maybe you could move the engine forward a bit, or get the battery farther forward?

I agree, it should not be sensative. I have a Tiger II, it is quite smooth and graceful. Not twitchy or sensative in any way. Minn's right you sound tail heavy a little bit. Did you balance the plane upside down? If you didn't you should. It will make it easier and more accurate. The pendulum effect will help you not fight against you. I am reading here that the tail heavy condition seems to crop up a lot with this ARF. Just recheck your balance and add weight or move the battery forward as needed. Good luck with it.

I already moved the battery as far forward as I can without removing fuel tank and putting it under tank. The battery I used is the largest 4.8 volt battery I could stuff in there (JR Extra 3000 MAH). I mounted the weights just behind the thrust washer on the engine mounthing horns. I did balance it upside down and exacly where the instructions said. They do give a little variation in settings but not much. Perhaps I will use the mark fartherest forward and try more weight.

Harry I would try to get the battery up under the fuel tank if you can. Put foam between the tank and the battery. And wrap the whole thing in foam. My Tiger II has a standard 600 mah battery under the tank. Works just fine. It is better to move the battery (if possible) than add weight (but you know that already). With the battery under the tank you may be able to eliminate some or all the added weight. BTW good choice on the battery. If ya gotta add weight, may as well add functional weight. Good luck with your Tiger.

I built mine with a OS 91 Surpass II on it and needed no extra nose weight. The plane flew like a dream until a servo failure put it in the ground[:@]. I agree with the others here, move the battery and receiver all the way up. Stuff the battery under the tank if you must but avoid dead weight. Are you running a spinner in the engine? If not pick up a nice Aluminum spinner, it adds weight as far forward as possible and looks great too. [8D]
