I am learning on a Firebird (the original) and have experienced some problems lately. I am hoping someone else has encountered similar problems and has some ideas.
The first problem is that the controls are cutting out if the plane gets more that about 100 feet away. The motor shuts off and the flaperons will not respond. The plan just comes down. If I tape the "reset" button, it won't cut out, but the flaperon servo sometimes will not work.
The second problem is that I am lacking power. I have tried cycling the batteries from full to 1.0 volts per cell several times in case it is a battery problem. I have 2 packs and there seems to be no difference between the two. I also replaced the batteries in my transmitter. I also noticed that the motor makes a grinding sound if I turn it slowly by hand. I think maybe the motor is going bad, but replacing it will be tough as the fuselage is one piece (sealed). Could it be something else.
Yes, I know I should get a "real" plane and I have just purchased a Slow Stick and new JR XF421 radio. However, I want to keep flying the FB and use it as a trainer for my son.
Thanks for your suggestions.
