I have been flying my great planes stuka for a few weeks now and after a few minor adjustments got it to fly perfect. i was at the field today and had both my nexstar and the stuka so i thought i would fly the nexstar for a while. After flying for about an hour a friend turned up and didnt have anything to fly as he needs to repair his plane. I decided to let him take the stuka up so he has something to fly all was good, perfect takeoff as the plane gained some altitude we noticed a change in the pitch of sound from the engine. first thoughts were oh s**t it's lost the muffler. we decided it needs to be brought in to land to check it then my worse nightmare happened. there was a loud cracking sound and noticed something flying in front of the plane. I took the transmitter from my friend and watched this black thing flying for about 3-4 seconds then it dawned on me that black thing was the spinner and prop. I had a good bit of height so i thought oh well just a deadstick no sweat (WRONG). because i had lost the prop and spinner my plane was now a little tail heavy i kept the nose down abit to keep speed and brought it over the hill luckily the plane just greased in for the landing (it was just sweet) no damage to the plane but never did find the prop and spinner that ended somewhere in a bean field. i think what happened was when the muffler came off the engine backfired and blew the spinner/prop off. dont think i will be as lucky again and the best thing is the muffler was still inside the cowl

As pure coincidence the motor on my slow stick flew off upon climb out right after i posted that! No damage but planes dont fly well with no weight up front I had no control over it. She just floated down for a landing all by itself.
