I'm looking at purchasing a .46 size motor. I've narrowed it down to a GMS .45 or a Thunder Tiger .46 both are the ball bearing models. What would you reccomend the GMS or the Thunder Tiger? They are both about the same price.
Thanks

Been there & done that -- get the TT, it's a much nicer piece of work (I have 5 of them). Power-wise, the GMS is no slouch, but it's not really much of a contest when all ownership & operating factors are considered.

Go with the TT even if it costs you more money. The TT is very easy to break in and tune. As for GMS, you're rolling the dice to get one that doesn't have an air leak. Since you're posting this in the beginner's forum, you should definitely go with the TT. GMS would be a good second engine after you learn how to run/tune the TT.

Lets all say it together. Thunder Tiger, Thunder Tiger, Thunder Tiger. I am no engine pro by any mean, but of the 4 engines I have, only the 2 TT pro 46 run without any problem. I have yet to deadstick with one and the break in is a no brainer. I have yet to even touch the low end needle valve on either one. The factory setting is perfect. Buy a tower hobbies muffler for it and it is an absolute beast.

Go for the TT! The first time I ran into one was when I was the instructor for the day at our field and a newbie brought a plane with a TT 46 engine on it. I was surprized to see how easy it was to start and adjust and how smoothly it ran. It also had good power. It ran as good as my OS 46FX which was a lot more money!

I have only owned TT .46's so far. I dont even use my electric starter on them any more, just a quick flip of the chickenstick and its running, EVERY TIME.
