Transition?

Hello All,
I have been flying a jumper 25(high wing trainer) for a year now,I can fly it well and aland well by now. I am now thinkin of getting a funkey extra 300s and putting a OS46la into it,which i already have. Will this be a safe transition from the trainer?I think i may need to get some help ona buddy box for my first few flights?

I went recently from an Avistar (my first plane) to a GP SuperSportster 40. I was very comfortable with the Avistar before I moved. I would place the GP SS as slightly harder to jump into than the Four Star only because it can be faster flying and on landing. I found such a jump worked out well but it was a jump. My next plane is going to be the Vector Flight Edge 540 with an OS 91. I would recommend as the previous person did that you do one plane in between a trainer and an Extra just because of the speed requirements of a more advanced plane. If you are proficient on your trainer and want I bigger jump I would recommend the SuperSportster it is a great plane.

All the planes suggested by rreiss are good choices. The WM Rambler 45 is a great flying plane; it does have a tapered wing and the additional complication of retractable gear. However, with a year of flying experience, a moderate engine like the OS 46LA and some initial buddy box time, you should be able to enjoy the plane of your choice as your next venture. An Extra will have a very short life as a second plane -- it is a serious piece of work, requiring well developed flying skills just to keep it alive, let alone use it as intended. But, it's your money -- just don't hit anyone with it.

agree with these guys . although the Extra is not hard to fly and surprisingly forgiving(for an aerobatic design -compared to early pattern ships)you would find it very quick & responsive. it expects you to know what you want to do immediately. the four star is a much better choice along with the ugly stick series(why do you think its so popular?) or Sig's Kavalier which is a no-brainer.

I'd agree with the comments above. Throw an extra plane between the trainer and an Extra, but would add the Goldberg Tiger 2 into the list provided. Excellent plane with a 46 in it.
Oh, and welcome to RCU. It's a great place with a lot of good people, all willing to give their advice and opinions.

Thanks for the rapid responses!Sorry to ignore your advice but the extra is really the only plane I can find that meets my need e.g.money and .46 engine(which I already have)
I think I should cope if I use the bb system for my first few flight to help me with the faster landings and the more responsive controls, I will have the throws set to the min. reguirments until I am comfortable then gradually increase them..Does anyone know the Ripmax Gambler?would this be a suitable 2nd plane?
Also, I was in the middle of building a Chris Foss Wot4 MKIII. I kinda screwed this up and have left it aside for another day. I glued the horizontal stab a little off square and it was all pre-covered. what would be the easiest way to fix this?

do whatever you are comfortable with.....i went (in like 3-4 months) from a .40 high wing trainer to a 25% edge540t. i never flew the edge on a buddybox either...i have alos flown a 40% carden extra and edge, and i was co mfortable...i know some 3rd year flyers that wouldnt touch the 25 let alone the 40....do whatever you want and are comfortable with...

Okay, you have laid out your requirements, money and .46 engine. With that in mind, here are my suggestions:
Sig Four Star 40 ARF or kit.
Goldberg Tiger 2 ARF or kit.
Ultra Stick 40 ARF.
The first 2 are based on countless recommendations on a good solid 2nd plane. The Ultra Stick is what ended up being my second plane. I was building a Tiger 2 kit and tried to do too many things at once. I had set it aside and then it got ruined by a water leak. I flew the Ultra Stick on low rates and probably 10 flights before I ever started flying it at more than 1/4 throttle. This was with a 46FX engine and a 11x6 prop. After I got comfortable flying full speed I swapped props for a 12.25 x 3.75 prop and love flying it now!
