Hi I have been working on my four star 40 kit and I am to the part where I need to sheet the wing, the part I am confused about is how far forward do I sheet the front piece of sheeting, do I stop right before the front spar, or do I go all the way to the front on top and bottom, and then sand it into shape

Ron, you start sheeting at the leading edge. You sheet towards the spar. Usually right to the rear edge of the spars. Then between the trailing edge sheeting is more sheeting in the center of the wing. Then from say the second or third rib out from the center you use cap strips. Which are thin strips of balsa that go on top of the exposed ribs. You are in essence turning the rib into a small beam. Check the books and plans thoughougly. They should show you how much of either and where they go. Good luck with the kit.

Not sure on the 4* kit but the wing leading edge is usually thicker than the front of the ribs. If this is the case then you butt the wing sheeting up to the leading edge, not over it.

well looks like I put the wrong size rod up front, any ideas what I can do to fix this

Are yoj saying this because of what Stick Jammer said or because you think you did? I built the 60 and from what i remember the leading ege is flush with the ribs because it wasnt meant to be sheeted, but i could be wrong.

Yea I see on the site that the l.e. is flush with the ribs. The only thing i can think of doing is have the sheeting cover the leading edge and sand it smooth.

The sheeting should not cover the LE, the inside ribs are 1/16" smaller than other ribs and you sheet between the LE and Spar not over them. and sheet between spar to TE.

If I remember correctly, the 4*40 doesn't have a 'D' structure wing.

That is, the only sheeting is over the center section, and that butts up against the back edge of the leading edge and the front edge of the trailing edge.

Some 4*s have a D structure & it is a very good idea to sheet those that do not.

yea my leading edge is flush with the ribs, and from what I have seen it is suppose to be raised a little for the sheeting to meet up, so should I just sheet over it and sand it smooth, or try and get the spar out somehow and put the correct size in.
