Default Dual Rates

When you set up dual rates are the low rates usually set to the manufacturers recommendations for throws and the you go beyond that on high rates or do you set up the low rates for something less than the manufacturers throw recommendations?

A lot depends on what you are doing.
For 3D planes, the high rate is for extreme control surface movement and low is what is needed to fly the plane in normal flight.

If you are doing aerobatics, high rate may be what is needed to perform the maneuvers and low rate is what is neded for spins and snaps.

You can also set it up to simulate flight modes on two or three controls surfaces. How you use your rates switch is up to you.

Geist is spot on here. The only thing that would help is info on what plane you have and what you want to do with it. This info would help us give you some more detailed info.

I have a four star 40, and it is my second plane. I haven't used the dual rates before and was thinking about setting this plane up for them. It has a tt 46 engine and I plan on doing basic aerobatic manuevers.

I use duel rates on my Prangster, simply because my Futaba 6EXA has the function and I feel I should use it. I use low rates for taking off and the switch to high rates (unless it's less than 10mph, then high rates for take off, but our flying field seldom has less than 10mph!). I basically switch to high rates for the extra throws I get and the exponential. I can pull loops much tighter and roll much quicker, so it's just a lot more responsive . . . . . important when doing snap rolls 50ft off the ground.
