Default Tiger 2 with .61

I have bought a Tiger 2 and am looking at engines for it. They seem to be naturally tail heavy so I was thinking I could add an OS .61FX engine to it. For those of you that have seen them or flown them is this overkill or will it bring it to life? If I do not get the .61FX I will just get the OS .46AX. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Save some $ & get a TT .61 Pro -- same power, equal or better quality, lower price. Another possibility is a LEO .61 -- another BB ABC .61 at a good price ($139 CDN, delivered)

I went with a Saito 72. I test fitted some engines at the shop where I picked up the Tiger 2 today and getting a .61 would require cutting the motor mount for it to squeeze in there. The saito 72 fits, barely, but it fits without modification. I cant wait to get this thing out in the sky.

I have a Tiger 2 w/OS .46 AX. Engine is mounted at the end of the mount. I also use a 1600 nimh rx pack right behind the fuel tank.
Plane balances right at the main gear (mine is trike). You have about 1/2 inch of CG play fore and aft of the main gear.
Just shoot the OS .46 in there. Plane performs great with the .46 I run mine with a MAS 11x6 prop.

well, I just bought saito .72, i am going with the trike at first too, but will eventually convert to tail dragger. the goal behind a larger engine was to keep the plane fun with unlimited vertical, hovering, etc. and of course a 4 stroke a much better engine all around.

You will have problems with the prop striking the ground if you use a Saito 72 in the tricycle configuration. The ground clearance is barely enough for an 11 inch prop. The Tiger 2 handles great as a taildragger.

However, a ball bearing 46 such as a 46AX is plenty of power for a Tiger 2. I could even hover my Tiger with my 46 if I had a little more rudder. The Tiger really doesn't have the control surfaces required to do the 3D stuff. It is more like a pattern plane than a 3D plane.

Mine has a Supertiger GS45 in it. That is all the engine this plane needs. A 50 or 53 would also be a good choice. mine is a kit converted to taildragger. There was no problems balancing it.

My winter bird was a tiger 2. I made it a tail dragger and wide spaced the landing gear in the wing. It has a O.S. 91 in it,and cg was on. It tracks great, half trottel is very smooth. Full bore makes it go a littel faster, but I liket it better slower. It's a bird worth building.

I put an OS 46 FX in mine, it runs like a dream, but I also have a Macs tuned pipe, which I believe makes the plane superb, it really screams. For balance I added a few grams, maybe four to the fuel compartment area.

If power is good, then more is better -- go for the .61 -- you won't regret it.
