Default 4 stroke?

I have a Magnum .52 4 stroke on my Sig 4 Star .40 I am looking for a smoke muffler or smoke system for this engine. I would appreciate a point in the right direction. I am having no luck finding any products for this engine. Also have a tiger shark sk .80 2 stroke and am looking for a smoke setup for also. thanks for the help.

I just gotta ask, why do you want to add smoke to such a simple, light, nice flying airplane. you need another tank, pump, . . . etc. Most four strokes in that range have standard sized mufflers. If you find the diameter and thread size of your magnum's exhaust pipe, then you may find a muffler to fit, for a compatible manufactures. Bisson makes many mufflers, also, Bennett and many others make mufflers that are smoke capable. Good luck in your search.

I understand four strokes don't generate enough heat to give satisfactory smoke... I could be wrong though.

4-strokes are better than glow 2-strokes on heat and therefore smoke. Gassers are better than both of course.

A .52 doesn't produce much exhaust volume, so the smoke volume will also be fairly low. You can get a thin trail out of it, but you won't get the big, highly visible clouds.

There are several companies that make smoke setups, I think Slimeline makes smoke setups for smaller engines.

mikeboyd is right about the muffler fitting. I doubtl you'll find something specifically for the Mag .52, but if you do some research, you can probibly find something that will fit or can be modified to fit. It does't hurt to actually contact the muffler manufacturers and ask them directly.

Since I have an OS 4-banger in the same class, I got curious.

Model number 4003S is a pitts style smoke muffler for an OS .51. That one might fit, or be made to fit, check with slimline for more details.

here's what you need to do. a friend of mine got a small four stroke to smoke as well usiong this setup.
you will need a preheater. the best way to do this is to get a new muffler and header (so as not to ruin the other one). then, cut a hole in the header, just barely big enough to fit some small copper tubing inside. push it almost all the way down, leaving maybe a milimeter or two of a gap. solder the brass tubing in using silver solder, and putting it right at the hole in the header you cut, so that it will be thermally conductive and will never move. continue wrapping the copper tubing tightly around the outside of the header, making sure not to kink it. do maybe 6-10 wraps, and make sure there just a tiny gap between the wraps, just big enough to drip some flux between them and some solder. when you are ready, do just that, using silver solder again. that will keep them from moving and ensure a positive heat transfer from the header to the tube. the purpose of this is to preheat the smoke oil so that you get better smoke volume. without it, the .52 four stroke will probably not smoke. leave maybe an inch of copper tubing coming off the muffler at the very end so you can attach some larger neoprene tubing to reduce back pressure. mount your smoke tank. you can use a perry pump as a smoke pump, (or a cline, just make sure that it says it is compatible with smoke oil) but you wont be able to turn it on/off without a seperate servo to pinch the neoprene tubing that will connect the tank to the pump. connect the pump to the copper tubing and you have a simple smoke setup.

This subject has come up a lot over the years and the answers are too complex to state in a simple thread. Last night I finally got around to writing a "How To" for smoke systems, I'll give it a few touch-ups today, and hopefully it will be posted in RCU Magazine sometime next week.

I'm glad you like the graphics Dennis... It took me one full day (Dawn to dusk - Back when the days were LONG!) to do them
