Engine size on Kadet LT 40
#2
I flew with a young pilot today that has an O.S. .61FX in his Kadet. It flew really well and seemed like a real powerful combination. If the .61 will fit, so will a .91FX. This would definitely be too much though.

I started flying my LT40 with a 46LA. I fly from a relatively short field surrounded by trees(or perhaps more correctly TREEEEEES!). Immediately after take off you have to start a climbing turn and continue the turn to be above the trees on the downwind leg... including a 100ft cottonwood which has grabbed a number of planes. The 46LA/LT40 combination made the take offs a little more "interesting" than I was comfortable with. I then put a 46FX on it and it was a vast improvement on the LT40. The instructors were no longer shaking uncontrollably after take off. You could probably go to a 50 or a 61 size engine, but any more than that is just overkill. Personally I say hang a good BB 46 on it and you'll have a nice flyer with enough wheaties to get you out of a tight spot

Ive got an OS LA46 on my ARF LT-40 and a Super Tigre G51 on my kit built LT-40 because I needed the extra weight up front and extra power because the kit weighs 1 pound heavier. They both fly perfect.

I flew one with a Magnum 75 on it, had the wings clipped one wing rib bay and no dihedril, it was a blast.
The owner let another guy fly it and he buried it past the muffler.....distroyed the carb so we put an MVVS carb on the engine and made it real strong.
If you have the experiance the plane will do it, well.

If you put a .60 or .75 in it, I reccomend thay you modify the wing so that it uses one servo per aileron. I put a tower .75 in mine, and found that in dives, I han no control of the plane[X(] It is better now with a 6v battery and 2 aileron servos.

I'm running the Evolution .46 (not the trainer engine) on my LT-40, and I've been very pleased thus far. Plenty of power, easy operation, and absolutely NO problems. I run an 11x7 prop on it and it will do everything I want it to at this point.

Have you thought of the K&B .61 Twister? It's very light and powerful. It would probably drop right in that Kadet without too much modification. It was going for $99 direct from K&B. You should check out the website.

Tim: I have an OS 70 4stroke on mine. It will hover with a 14x4W APC prop. It is a great airplane, more than just a trainer. It is a blast. Good luck with yours

Turn an 11x6 or 12x5 and it should be perfect
