Default Evolution 61 Engine

I have purchased this engine from a friend with no manual. Downloading the manual off the internet is no help. I'm wanting to know the prop range on this engine. The manual only says "Benchmark 12x6". Anyone have one of these that have flown with a 13x6?

Here's a prop chart that jettstarblue posted a while back. It should answer your questions.

I would go with the manual if your model allows--

In any case here are some prop charts..

Most .61's do very well with a 12X6, a 13X6 is a bit much. It won't spool up very fast and may overload the engine. You may want to look at the tower web site and see what props are recommended of other .61 two strokes like magnums, thunder tiger, super tigre and so on. I have several .61's, .75's and so on. the .61's really pull strong with an APC 12X6. The .75's do okay with a 13X6, but really scream on a 12X6. If your into slow and steady a 13X4 APC wide works well with a .61. Your engine may even be strong enough for a 14X4. If you have a need for speed, the 11X7 will make it fast, but doesn't slow down well for easy landings. Hope this helps.

I happen to own an Evolution 61. I also have some 75 size engines of different brands so I know what rpms to expect with different props. My experience from the rpm numbers on the Evo 61 tells me that the engine performs fairly well with an APC 12-6 but would not perform very well with a 13-6. [8D]

I am trying to see which of the following planes work best with an Evolution .61 NT 2 stroke engine. Let me know what you think:

Hangar 9 T-34 mentor .40-.58 2 stroke
Hangar 9 Twist .40-.58 2 stroke

Please advise.

I have a Twist 40 and put the Evo .61 on it. Two weeks later I switched to the Evo .46. I found that the .61 was too much engine for this plane. One of the guys at the field owns a hobby store and sells the Twist and Evo engines. He has heard of this engine breaking the firewall of the Twist during extreme manuevers. Very seldom did I fly at or above 1/2 throttle with the .61

I have the evolution .61 and am putting it in the Hanger 9 Texan I have a problem with the muffler. IF I follow there directions the stock muffler will would go through the firewall. I'm having a hard time finding another style muffler for this engine...anyone out there point me in the right direction as I don't think its a great idea to cut out a huge chunk of the firewall. I have an os .61 muffler but it doesn't match up.

I hate to state the obvious, tmw09, but you might try a Hangar 9 Twist 60 ARF to go with your Evolution .61 NT

If going with the twist go with the 40 size for your Evo .61. The Evo .61 is not enough for the 60 size twist, (it will fly the 60 twist but you will not be happy with it.)

RYMAN
I have the AT6 with a Evo .61 & a Pitts style muffler on it & it works Great.
