Default Avistar Engine Help Needed Please??

Hello all.First wanted to say I have been lurking around for a couple months and really enjoy all the great information being passed out.I am starting out nice and easy and have so far joined a local club and started practicing with a simulator.Found a good deal on a ARF Avistar and since it has been highly recommended here and at the club I grabbed it.What engine do you recommend with the Avistar? Most places want to package it with a .40 but leaning towards a TT or OS .46.Local at the club runs a 46Fx on his.Is a 46 too much for a beginner? Thanks for your input...... Jim

A 46 is not too much and you can use it on many choices for your next plane. TT46 would work well, OS as well.

I learned on an Avistar with an OS46fx and never regretted it. The engine has moved on to another plane since I lost my trainer to a midair with a bird.

A ball bearing 46 would be an excellent choice for this plane. It is not too much engine for the plane and the engine will be very useable on a 2nd or later plane.

An OS 46 FX/AX,Thunder Tiger Pro or Evolution engine would all be very good choices. These engines are VERY USER FRIENDLY.

46 size engines work really well on an Avistar. Gives you extra oomph if you need it and the larger prop can act as a brake for landing with the engine at idle. I own mostly OS engines and really like them but I have helped lots of new flyers with Thunder Tiger engines and have found them to be just as easy to tune and also have good reliable power! The new 46AX series is a quieter version of the FX series and it has a touch more power. It would be a really nice power plant for the Avistar. [8D]

The Avistar is a great trainer.. All good advise here on the 46 engine
a 40 will work, but the 46 will be a lot better and a bearing 46 can
be used later.. I started with the Avistar/LA 46 For me it worked
out great, not one bit of problems on the LA and the Avistar taught
me a lot.. It even would hover a bit and knife edge somewhat, it
served me well to this day.. Soon to be on floats....MAYBE :-) (PIF)
Just remember to keep the landing speed a little faster than the
normal trainer and it will serve you well!!... Have fun with it!!

I stated with th 40 LA. that came with my Avistar and found it to be a little under powered. I swiched to the OS AX46 and love it. I am going to buy another for my new ultra- stick
