Actually yes you can and there are a number of different approachs. One is with a simple two meter glider with a power pod attachment that fits under the rubber bands that hold the wing on. This would be flying with just rudder and elevator no throttle or ailerons but many folks have started just this way and flights are short but the method does work. Another approach is one of the many designs of the past that are intended for two function control as starter airplanes. I would suggest that you ask this in the Half A forum here at RCU and you will get many suggestions as to particular models.

The last part of your question as to what else you need is easy: You need a mentor, another flyer or someone with some experiance and a friend. Best if you connect with a flying club as these folks are easiest to find there.

I'll ditto that 2 meter glider idea.

I've done it several times

The 2 meter Motor glider is definatley an option. I have an Ace High MKll I've flown quite a bit and although it's only 2 channel, it's a blast with the TD .051 I've got on it! And, it takes standard size radio gear.

what about a simple trainer from Thunder Tiger (Ace Hobbies) I think they make the perfect kit for your stuff. The other would be to buy an electric kit and just convert it.

The gentle lady glider flys great with a .049 on the nose.

the gentle lady or Ace High glider(assuming you an find one ) would be excellent choices. he could also fly the Goldberg Electra by adding a speed control(they are not that expensive anymore) pretty cheap flying operations wise. any of the 3 channel plane s out there as well with the 3rd servo . Hobby people has the School Boy for .09 engine .-
