That I can't post in the beginner's forum anymore? It IS kind of an advanced airplane, but..... well..... I <sniff> hate to have to leave you guys...... they'll eat me alive over in the pattern forum, me beeing a newbie and all..... and...<snuffle> well, I still FEEL like a beginner when it comes time to land.... I did almost plant it once..... (tried a slow roll too low) Oh fiddle, I'm getting too emotional to type.




(hehe.... Zen 50 with a Saito.82... what a ROCKET! Seriously, I don't know if this would be even a good third plane, probablly wait for your fourth or untill you flew something fast. But like the Twist, I dont' think I'me ever NOT going to have some form of pattern-like airplane in my stable. I've still got a ton of setup to do, but wow. And it even lands fairly easy.)

Those Zen's are sweet! I noticed your wheels being very small. Are they under-sized, or is it the photo?

very normal for the "high speed low drag" world of pattern planes.

I don't think anyone is going to say you are not welcome here anymore. if it was not for the more experienced pilots like minnflyer. what kind of advice would the beginners be getting (I would just hate to think).

I quite like the Zen as well. Really amazing construction! I had the blue version with a Y.S.63... what a bad boy!!!!

Actually, those are the stock sized wheels. I've got to find me a pair of them there chrome plated wheels though, seems like all the fancy pattern planes have them. Supposed to make landing it easier, too.

Hey, if you've gotten good enough to fly something like that proficiently, You've probably learned enough worthwhile stuff to pass on to other beginners in the beginners section.
If you want good stuff to keep coming into you, pass some of it along to others. Especially good luck!

Ya know, if it wasn't for some of the stuff I've gotten away with in the year or so I've been flying again, I would say that you make your own luck, and to some extent you do. Good preflights, good assembly practices, good habbits, all of these contribute to making your luck better. But when you JUST happen to catch a yellow flash from your voltwatch as your plane flashes by on what you were going to make a touch and go, or your spinner explodes on takeoff and dosen't damage anything else, or your elevator servo wire gets rubbed through by a mounting screw and you still manage to land your plane with almost full up elevator (TWICE!), I have to say that being lucky is, well, rather nice. As my Dad said, "I'd rather be lucky than good!" (I'd like to be both)

I had absolutely no problems with this plane. I would bring it in a little on the fast side and let her run out on the mains. She would settle in very nicely with the tail coming down quickly. This always made for beautiful landings.

Minnflyer - aren't the low-bounce tires designed for "easier" landings?

Ahhh. Zen-50 I too have one that has been equipped with a YS-63FZ and APC 12x7, Rossi-60 Long Pipe, and a Tower-75 (Purple version), it was VERY fast in each config. with the Piped Rossi getting the speed edge (sorta old school fast pattern!) The wheels are VERY small intentionally, as the wheel wells are small also-

It is not an easy airplane to land smoothly, but as mentioned if you keep some speed it is no problem- Congrats on moving up, make sure you pop your head in here once in awhile.... I know I like to

im guessing there is a few people that are "advanced" trainers!.... or in minn's case "expert" trainers! that still visit the beginner forum
and as those wheels go, it looks like your lhs ran out of main wheels so u bough 3 tail wheels! lol

I never noticed the wheels to be that small... Have you even seen the wheels of an Aurum? They are so small if you land badly you scrap the collars! lol!
