I'm sure someone else can explain it in full detail, but from what I understand dual conversion vs. single conversion has to do with the way the tx signal is filtered. Dual conversion is better, because it can filter out more stray signals. That's what I understand. I always buy dual conversion now...

I think it depends one what you want to do. If this is for a glow plane, then always buy dual conversion. It this is for an indoor electric plane. then buy dual conversion when you can. Some small electrics can’t handle the extra weight of a dual conversion receiver. There are some very small dual conversion receivers if your willing to pay the price.
A dual conversion receiver I believe cycles the signal twice to keep the glitches or hits on your channel to a minimum. They usually have a better range also. Again if this is for glow, always go dual conversion.

Please read this article by Peter Berg regarding this issue. Neither is intrinsically better than the other, they simply work differently. I fly single and dual conversion on glow planes. In my experience, the overall quality of the receiver plays a much bigger role than whether its single or dual conversion.

This is kinda on the same subject....
Im trying to figure this out but im gona need some help.
I have a yak 55 flightflex 3D EP and i was using my old radio and reciever form one of those CHEAP RTF's. Anyways the radio is getting old and im going to upgrade to the Tower Hobbies 6XM 6-Channel Computer Radio and i need to know if the radio is Dual Conversion or Single Conversion or is it just the Reciever that can be Dual Convertion or Single Convertion?? And also if they both have either DC or SC can you use Dual Convertion with Single Convertion??
I would appreciate it if someone would get back to me on this...
Thanks.

ZIP, Dual/Single converison only applies to the receiver. Any transmitter (assuming frequency, shift, encoding, etc.) will work with both dual and single conversion RXs.

The crystal for the receiver has to be either single or dual also to match what the receiver is, if buying new from a hobby shop they should already know that and set you up properly.

This explains alot of the single/dual conversion as well as the ppm/pcm issue.
