OK, other than the normal stuff in your tool/field box (props, screwdrivers, glow plugs, rubberbands) what else would you recommend that may not be obvious to beginners. Pics of your tool/field box would be nice.
Thanks,
Jack

When I started flying I thought I had to have "everything" in my tool box, and I did. The box turned out to be just too darn heavy. I know split my boxes into 2. I have my field box that has what I need on the flight line. Battery, fuel, fuel pump, electric starter, glow starter, voltage meter, rags, and the rope and stake I use to hold back my planes. My tool box stays in my truck until needed. It contains SAE and metric allen wrenchs, screwdrivers, wrenches, glow plugs, 4-way wrench, props, heat shrink, lacing wire, butane powered soldering iron, small collection of screws/nuts/bolts, sunscreen, bug repellent. Between those two boxes I have just about everything I need at the field. If I need more I bring the repair home to fix it.

I think everyone has hit the basics so far.
You wanted some pics.
Here you go.
One for the flight line and one stays in the back of my Cherokee.
Props, glowplugs, extra bolts, xacto knife, starter, charger, extra batteries, fuel, allen wrenches, radio, fuel tubing ...
Bill
BTW: Used a cheap pistol case from Walmart to hold my radio. I only spend a couple of dollars. I would highly recomend this to anyone. It makes it so much easer and safer to carry your radio.

I split mine into two as well just like RCKen. But then again, I also just bought a trailer so I could take every plane I own to the field anytime I want! Heck, I can even take my shop out there if need be!!!

I don't like them old field boxes. I still use my old one for fuel and windex and for everything else, I found this more convienient.
Storage for props on top and the triton and plenty of room for all the goodies and little boxes for those little tiny screws I keep losing!
And it all folds up into a small package.

How do you carry your cleaning stuff? Paper towels are rather bulky and hardly fit in a fieldbox.
Are you a Windex or 409 advocate?
Greeat replies so far, keep'em coming.

I don't use paper towels. I use old rags from the paint dept. at Home Depot and a Windex advocate.
, and drunkenbushman, the windex is for cleaning up fuel on the airplanes.

Theft of the trailer has certaintly crossed my mind. That is why for now I've decided NOT to paint anything on the outside that would notate what might be inside. I'm also going to be re-doing my front yard so that I can back it into a gated fence and be locked up at all times. Right now it's in my driveway with a hitch lock on it. It would certaintly suck if it got stolen, but I do have homeowners insurance and AMA so I am covered..
As for windex and paper towels, I like 409 myself. I have a cloth carrying bag that I use to bring my paper towels and 409 in . I also usually stuff some regular cloth wrags in there as well.

One item that I carry periodically that is not mentioned is Sun Screen. I am a "burn and peel" type and in the early spring and summer, I need to make sure I use it before I get one of those "red" tans going.

You've probably already thought of this, but be sure your stuff is covered by your homeowner's insurance. Many are written to exclude large collections of things that are not essential. Examples include stamp and coin collections, jewelry, etc. Usually you need to pay for additional coverage for these things.

I have a cardboard box that I keep in my truck all the time that has a bottle of cleaning solution in it and a roll of paper towels. Cleaning solutions is a gallon of windshield washer fluid with a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in it.
