Default O.S. LA 40

Hi I just started flying a hobbico trainer I got from one of my students. He crashed it a few times, actually I don't think he kept in the air for a minute or two. Here's the question. It has an O.S. .40 LA in it. The instructions say to start it with the needle valve 1 and on half turns open. From there you run it at full throttle and lean it. This particular engine won't run at full throttle with one and and half turns on the needle valve. When I open the needle valve more it runs fine. Is something wrong with this engine or are the instructions just too general? Thanks for all the replies

I don't think there is anything wrong with the engine. If it runs fine with the needle valve further out, so be it. An Engine's performance is measured by...well...the performance.

That's why the needle valve is adjustable. If it always ran with the needle at 1 1/2 turns -- there wouldn't be a needle valve on it?

Enjoy,

Jim
