Im new to RC Flying and have just finished building my first artf plane. It is all ready to fly, and i know how to fly RC aircraft but i dont know where i can fly it without joining a club. Im not a BMFA member, do i legally need to be?
Are there any places where model flying is allowed, like on common ground or fields?
Thanks

You don't have a legal obligation, but if you hit something and you get sued, it's definitely gonna be worth it. Also, you wont be able to fly at shows and fly-ins unless you're insured, and you wont be able to sit the safety awards.
Even if you're not a member, go to the [link=http://www.bmfa.org]bmfa website[/link] and have a look at the club links section, pay your local a visit to ask some questions. Also the up&away booklet explains everything to get started.
If you wanna fly at a field, make sure theres no villages within 1.5 miles(2km ish) and that you wont be overflying any buildings, animal sanctuarys, roads, and that there's nothing but mother earth to crash into. And above all, only fly there once you have the farmers permission.

Club flying is much more fun and safer than flying alone. Check for local clubs at the BMFA website and visit several ( as a non flying visitor ) to see which suits you. Also decide on the club before you buy radio gear as you need to get the correct mode that the rest of the club uses.
You wont find anywhere legal to fly in Greater London except club sites!....dont even think about it!
