Default LT-40 Construction has begun!!

The plane has arrived the kit has been started!! Well exciting times around here, my first RC plane kit, the Sig LT-40 came in the mail a couple of days ago. So the plans were laid out, the manual studied and the building is underway. It seems to be a well put together kit with a thorough manual and things are going excellent. A couple of items that I've learned already that will make the next plane that much easier. The plans need to be flattened out completely! I did actually run an iron briefly over them before taping them down and covering with wax paper but I should have been more thorough with it. Between the creases and the wax paper things are a bit too spongy for my tastes. No biggie. Also getting used to working with CA. It's a bit of a love/hate thing! It does speed up the work for sure, it also makes for some comic relief when you get two fingers and a thumb stuck together[sm=bananahead.gif] I'm happier using yellow carpenter's glue and lots of clamps for most things and CA here and there when needed. I like the extra time that the yellow glue gives you, it's also less messy and I'm very fuzzy about neat, clean and light construction! I learned about that from my old free flight Guillow's models. The LT-40 is actually easier to put together because of the larger scale. Anyone that has built the little rubber powered jobbies knows you need deft fingers to put them together
One thing I'd like to ask anyone that has an opinion is about the wing dihedral. I've read extensively on-line about building this plane and I've come across a few posts that recommend reducing or removing the dihedral altogether. I'm finished of one wing and starting the other one so the time is now if I want to do the same. Any comments on this?

Great choice on building a LT-40, it really is a great plane. I also built the kit version and my instructor just recently turned me loose. I think that I soloed on the 10th flight. The plane has been trouble free and was built exactly to plans. If you remove the dihedral, the plane will be a little less stable. I have actually thought about buying just the wing kit and building it flat with a servo bay in each wing. With flapper-ons and the CG set as far aft as possible, it would also serve as a good intermediate trainer. Have fun building and you are really going to enjoy flying the LT-40. Bob

Here are a couple of pics of the LT-40 coming together. One has my wife holding an almost finished wing. We are separated and I have renovated her den into my build shop We may get back together someday and then we'll fight to see who keeps the room!![>:]

Good choice of Kit to build. The LT-40 is an excellent kit to build! It goes together easily, and the manual is well thought out. The big bonus is that the Plane is a great flyer! I have included a photo of one that I built some time back. I basically just built it to sell since I enjoy building, so I left all the dehidrel in the wing so it could be sold as a good stable true flying Trainer. A real nice Plane. Hope you enjoy yours.
