Bet you guy's/gal's never had a maiden like this before. Probably not even a flight quite like it. Hope you never do.
After grounding the plane last night because I saw to many adjustments for trimming the plane I took it up this morning. The bird was flying straight as an arrow with no further trim adjustments and it is probably a good thing to.
I had one of those sudden nausea attacks that I rarely get from chemo, while the plane was in the air!
After several minutes of decorating my shoes and fighting to keep the bird in the air guess what. Yep, ran out of fuel. Luckily I also ran out of stuff in my stomach about this time.
Only one problem, I have yet to do a dead stick landing!
After nearly crapping my pants from these recent developments I regained my composure and brought her around for the runway. It turned out to be my best landing yet. Super smooth!
I just hope that is not what I need to do for all my landings.

Skynyrd Man,
That is one heck of a story and I'll bet that's one landing you will never forget. [X(]
I personally do not have to deal with chemo but my mother did and I fully understand what you were going through. I am glad you made a great landing, that really shows composure on yor part. I would most likely have planted mine if that would have happened to me.
Bill Cosby said it best about vomitting, although his was related to being drunk, it still applies.
"You probably would not have been surprised to see your shoes come out of your mouth" [X(] From his video called "Himself" very funny video if you have never seen it, go watch it.

Skynard,
Man, sorry to hear about your problems with chemo, but hang in there man, it's gonna get better. Never did that while flying, but I have been stung by a wasp while I was in the air. It got me on my hand which strated to swell to point that I couldn't feel my fingers on the sticks. I yelled for a buddy to come out and land it for me. It all worked out, but was a bit scary while it was happeing.

You know since the first chemo they gave me I don't even keep track anymore.
This is the third type of chemo I have taken. The schedule is two weeks on, one week off for the stuff I am taking now. Don't know if you can tell what it is from that description, the stuff seems all different.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer last Sept. About a month and a half ago they informed me that the cancer was terminal as it spread to my liver.
I just gotta keep pounding and enjoy the day

As for the flight I just tried to keep the plane up as high as I could without loosing sight of it. All that height helped big time for the dead stick.

What the heck, that guy is praying while he is flying his plane? snicker!Yes your right, wish I had had a co-pilot with the camera for that kodak moment.

The more I think about it the more I giggle about it.

The worst part about this story is I started drinking 6 cups of green tee a day when I found out the cancer went terminal. Green tea is suppose to be nasty on cancer.
I had three cups in me when this happened. Well, I'm not drinking the stuff for it's taste[:@][:@][:@]
This means I get to drink 9 cups now![:@][:@][:@]

for the nausea you can always smoke some marijuana... but i hate to say it but green tea wont do anything that the chemo can't already do. just keep going cuz you never know whats just around the corner with cancer. we're working on many, many things to at least control the cancer, especially lung.

BTW- The AMA magazine, that I just got, has a review of your Rapture kit, they loved it. Of course I have never seen a really bad review in a magazine. That would be bad for advertising sales.
Anyway they had lots of good to say about it and only a couple of very minor dings that won't bother you when flying it. Said it was a good second plane.

I am taking my time finishing it, I'm not ready to fly it yet. I hope to get Alpha 1 recovered next week and then start covering the Rapture.
According to the long range weather forcast I should find some time for building the next 10 days.[

Recovering the Alpha should give you some good practice before starting on the Rapture. Especially as far as temps and corners are concerned. May have been a wise move to have crashed it. Are you sure you didn't plan it this way?

Skynard, I was thinking of floats, but then i decided to just make a carrier for electrics instead. Thats my next big project. Carrier for electrics or 1/2 a's

Would require water to land on and a boat for retrieval. Lifejackets, oars, motors, water skis, assistant to drive while skiing. WOW, starting to look expensive. If you have access to a rowboat, go for it. Wrap rx and battery in plastic bag to keep dry. Have marvel mystery oil/automatic trans fluid in 50/50 mix for flushing water out of motor to avoid rust. May want to rinse in denatured alcohol first to clean.
I'm sure there are others here with actual float experience that can help. I like my planes dry.[

I have a canoe and there is a real nice lake about 5 miles from here. 2OO acres, it is owned by the state so there is not a house on it.

lol.
I think when you get all your planes done, you should get a picture of the alphas around the rapture in the center. It would be pretty awsome
