Leave it to Beaver
#1
I am starting to get more comfortable flying. I started with the Hobby Zone planes and flew the wings off 'em (a few times, literally
), and then bought a Mountain Models Magpie, which was the best purchase I've made in a long time.
Since I was pretty comfortable with the magpie at this point, I figured I'd try something different, so I bought a DeHavilland Beaver from GWS. It's a neat little foam plane and was a fun project to build. Having gotten comfortable with my four-channel Magpie, the three-channel Beaver is an absolute breeze to fly. Hand launches are easy, and landings are a breeze. I pitched the GWS "wire wheels" and replaced them with 2" Great Planes ultra light wheels. They look way better, and the little Beaver will ROG like a champ!
I ran three batteries totally out, charged 'em up and ran 'em out again, twice. Nine full-length flights, and the plane came home in the same condition it was in when it left. I'm happy.
I also picked up a set of floats with it, so when I take the Aqua Jet out to the lake, the Beaver can come along too!

Yeah, it takes off from the ground just fine. It works better with the Great Planes wheels than the wheels that came in the kit, though. All-around, it's a neat little plane.

For some real fun, try a shock flyer or one of the Eflite planes. Put in a brushless and use lipo packs. You may have to go to Wally Mart for some new fruit of the looms though!!!
Building an all fan fold Mavrick. Like a shock flyer. Using a 370 outrunner brushless w/3S lipos. Should be around 12 oz. or so.
Things are as much fun as my glow aircraft and my sailplanes.
