Hi....

I am a "newbie".......I have not even flown yet......but next week ......will be maiden voyage (with Instructor). My cousin got me
hooked on this !!!!!!!!! So......I recently was given an RC plane for free !!! With the help of my cousin, we are building it now and
hope to fly next weekend.

The plane is a GALAXY TRAINER. Manufactured by IMS ( I think they are no longer in business now, and bought out by Horizon ???

Well......here is my question. I thought I had a really good start with the free kit.....but later found out that the servos were pre-91.
So.........along with my New Futaba Cap 7 I ordered I also ordered a new flight pack.

The model has never been fully assembled or flown yet.....so aside from the servers, what else should I be looking for to ensure a good
and proper training fllight with this model. Its a 40 scale that looks alot like a PT-40. I believe it has an OS-46 engine which we bench
tested and ran........and seems to be great.

This kit has set for years.......begging to be put together and flown and since I am just now starting out thought it might be a good
trainer for me.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Okay, welcome to RCU and to RC flying. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on, and RCU has a lot of terrific people.

The old servos should be fine. Servos weren't affected by the change to narrow band equipment in 1991. The connectors may be the older style, but they can be changed by wiring on new ones. But use your new servos for now, and worry about the older servos for another plane once you gain experience.

I don't know that particular trainer, but it should be fine for starting out. Great price too!

You're taking the right approach by having an instructor, so all I'll add is, "good luck, and have Fun!"

Thanks for the reply. My cousin was told at the field he flies at that if the servos don't have a gold sticker ( I think that is what he said)
then they are not usable. Everything in this plane was JR stuff. Since most all the people at the field fly Futaba. I went ahead and
ordered one that will not only be good down the road, but is going to be compatible for instructor cable.

In any event......everything should be "new Futaba" when I get starrted in the air. Just wanted to make sure too that the JR servos were
junk.....or not.

The gold sticker won't be on the servos, it should be on the transmitter. The gold sticker is there to verify that the radio is a narrowband radio, which is required by the FCC for all RC radios.

usable........just wanted to make sure.

If it's the servos you are worried about, there isn't any reason why you can't use them. I have servos that are 10+ years old that I still use all the time. The biggest thing you have to worry about is that they wiring is correct. See the attached document to make sure the servo you are using is wired to match your receiver
