The traxxas rustler is a good beginning car. My friend got one R-T-R (ready to run) for around 200 i think. Depends if you want gas or electric though?

OK. Here are the pros and cons:

Gas:

Pros-

Gas engines are more powerful for their weight because they don't have any batteries to worry about. You can just full up your tank and drive. Gas cars are usually faster. You dont have to wait for your batteries to charge, so you could drive untill you had to replace your reciever batteries. They usually are AA type batteries.

Cons-

Gas engines are louder, so the neighbors might not like you too much. They can be hard to start, and they require a glow driver, fuel, and fuel pump to get them going. They also get oil on your car. You can set your mixture incorrectly, and burn your engine up.

Electric:

Pros-

Electrics are quiter. They don't require a glow driver, a fuel pump, or fuel. They don't make a mess of your car or truck either. You don't have to have a special reverse gear to go backwards either.

Cons-

Electrics take a while to recharge even if you quick charge them. They arent nearly as powerful as gas, and they have short run times. Even if you burn the fuel up quickly in your gas car or truck, you can refill it in no time.

I would go with electrics since they are much more simple and better for beginners. The gas engines will appeal to you later on when you are used to cars.
